Series: Jesus- Son Of Man [#30]
FREEDOM TO SERVE
Luke 9:1-9
Introduction:
As we gather today on this Independence Day weekend, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the freedom we enjoy as a Nation- A freedom won through sacrifice, courage, and perseverance. We celebrate the liberty that allows us to live, work, and worship without fear, a gift that echoes the core principles of justice and independence. As followers of Christ, we are reminded that true freedom is not only about political independence but also about spiritual liberation- The freedom to serve others with love, humility, and purpose. In our text, Jesus sent out His Disciples, empowering them to serve boldly, regardless of circumstances or opposition.
Today, let us reflect on what it truly means to be free- To serve with joy, to extend God's love beyond ourselves, and to embrace the calling Christ has placed on each of us. Just as our Nation celebrates independence, let us also celebrate the divine freedom that enables us to serve others and live out our faith with courage and conviction.
Luke 9:1-9
Freedom to…
1. Empower.
Jesus gave His Disciples power to share God's message and heal people. This shows us that true freedom in Christ is not just about being free; but about using that freedom to serve others with purpose and compassion. When Jesus empowers us, it means we are called to let go of selfishness and spiritual struggles, and instead, serve with love and confidence. Spiritually, real freedom comes from obeying God’s call, changing us from people who just receive grace into people who actively help others and spread His kingdom. In everyday life, this means using our talents and resources to serve those around us, just like Jesus' followers did when they shared God's love and power.
The 4th of July reminds us of our Country's independence; but as followers of Christ, our greatest freedom comes from serving others and helping God's kingdom grow. This Holiday is a good time to think about how real freedom means taking responsibility and giving to others through acts of love and leadership. Just like Jesus gave the Disciples power to serve, we are called to use our freedom to make a difference in our communities, stand up for what is right, and show Christ’s love in everyday ways. Celebrating independence can also remind us that true freedom is not just political; it is spiritual- Freedom that pushes us to serve selflessly, show God's love, and help those around us.
Freedom to…
2. Live boldly.
Jesus sent His Disciples out to tell others about God's Kingdom and to live confidently in their faith. The Bible shows us that real freedom is not just about doing what we want, but about willingly following God’s plan. This means we need to be brave and trust that God will help us face any fears or challenges. Just like Jesus’ followers were given strength to serve boldly, we are also called to step up and make a difference in the World, even when it is hard.
On the 4th of July, as we celebrated our Country’s independence, this message reminds us that true freedom comes from a relationship with Jesus. When we live boldly for Him, we show love, justice, and service to others. Our freedom is not just for ourselves- It is a gift from God that gives us the courage to serve others with strength and faith. As we enjoy our independence, let’s remember that real freedom means using our lives to help and serve others- Showing the love of Christ in everything we do.
Freedom to…
3. Focus on the mission.
Jesus sent out His Disciples with a mission based on God's authority and purpose. He teaches that true freedom is not about personal gain or being recognized by others; but about serving God's Kingdom. Spiritually, this shows us that real freedom comes from being freed from sin and selfishness so we can fully dedicate ourselves to God’s work. In everyday life, it means putting others 1st and working to spread love and humility like Jesus did. Our freedom as followers of Jesus isn’t for ourselves, but to serve others and honor God.
The 4th of July reminds us of the importance of freedom, but it also challenges us to think about what we do with that freedom. Just as the founding fathers fought for independence with a purpose, we are called to use our freedom to serve others and help build a better community. Our independence can inspire us to act responsibly- Serving our neighbors, seeking justice, and promoting peace. True freedom is not just about enjoying rights; it is about using those rights to make a positive difference, showing faith through service and love.

4. Witness.
Jesus sent out His Disciples to tell others about God's Kingdom, giving them the power to heal and serve. This shows that being free in Christ is not just about avoiding bad things; but about having the freedom to help and serve others. Spiritually, true freedom means being set free from sin so we can care for others and share God's love. In everyday life, believers are called to be brave in sharing the Gospel and showing Christ’s love through acts of kindness, living out the values of God's kingdom.
