I. EXORDIUM:
Are you still reading zodiac signs? How about your daily horoscopes? All of these are useless
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
Believers
III. OBJECTIVES:
To prove how useless zodiac signs and horoscopes reading are.
IV. TEXT:
Isaiah 47:14 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
But they are like straw burning in a fire; they cannot save themselves from the flame. You will get no help from them at all; their hearth is no place to sit for warmth.
V. THESIS:
Fortune telling are useless, they can't save themselves from the fire, you get no help from them.
VI. TITLE:
Fortune Tellers Are Useless
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Author: Isaiah - son of Amos, prophesied during reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah.
B. Isaiah is regarded as greatest Old Testament prophet: (1) preeminently the prophet of redemption, (2) passages in this book are among the finest in literature.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. How Useless Fortune Tellers Are?
1. Useless like straw burning in a fire (Micah 5:12, Revelation 21:8)
Micah 5:12 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
I will put an end to all witchcraft, and there will be no more fortune-tellers.
The future of fortune tellings and witchcraft are both the same, a fiery, burning future, that is the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
So don't follow them in their future.
2. They cannot save themselves from the flame (Revelation 9:21, 2 Peter 3:9, Isaiah 46:10)
Revelation 9:21 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
GOD in His mercies provided a way to be saved that is by repentance of our sins and following/accepting JESUS as LORD and SAVIOUR, but without these two it's impossible to be saved. But the fortune tellers, those who follow them won't even do the first requirement, that is repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
GOD's goodness and patience leads us all to repent from our sins but instead these people rejected GOD's knowledge and turn to their knowledge to know the future.
Isaiah 46:10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.
3. You will get no help from them at all (Leviticus 19:26, Deuteronomy 18:10-13)
Leviticus 19:26 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
“Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood. “Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft.
Deuteronomy 18:10-13 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft,
or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.
Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you.
But you must be blameless before the Lord your God.
If you are detestable to GOD by doing these things, then you are GOD's enemy and are only destined to destruction, so how can you help yourself or even help others if you're the object of destruction of the LORD GOD.
4. Their hearth is no place to sit for warmth. (Ezekiel 43:15, Isaiah 33:14)
Just find a tree with it's shade and be cool there, for you will not find any warmth on their hearth (like a fireside, side of the fireplace, a place where fire is started)
Ezekiel 43:15 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
The top of the altar, the hearth, rises another 7 feet higher, with a horn rising up from each of the four corners.
Only in GOD's Presence there's warmth because He is the all consuming fire and He alone deserves our praise and worship and everything we got.
Isaiah 33:14 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
The sinners in Jerusalem shake with fear. Terror seizes the godless. “Who can live with this devouring fire?” they cry. “Who can survive this all-consuming fire?”
IX. CONCLUSION:
Go only thru GOD, who holds our future.
Isaiah 46:10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.
Romans 8:19 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.
