“Forgetting What Is Behind”
Phil 3:13
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,”
Intro: One of our problems within our Human Tendencies is the issue on not forgetting. We always seem to go back to the same old things and it starts in us remembering the past.
The Apostle Paul knew about the struggles that one has within himself and spoke very specifically about this, saying: “Forgetting what is behind…”
I. FORGET THAT WE WERE SINNERS, WE’RE FORGIVEN
A. 1 John 2:12 “I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.”
II. FORGET OUR GENERATIONAL CURSES, WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD
A. John 1:12 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— “
III. FORGET OUR BITTERNESS AND RESENTMENT, WE HAVE A NEW MIND
A. Heb. 12:14,15 “Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”
IV. LEAVE BEHIND OUR POVERTY AND EXCESS BAGGAGE
A. 3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
V. LEAVE BEHIND HUMAN TENDENCIES AND LIVE IN THE SPIRIT
A. Gal 5:16 “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
VI. LEAVE BEHIND YOUR PERSONAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES AND REACH FOR THE PERFECT MAN
A. Fil. 3:13 “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have
taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what
is behind and straining toward what is ahead,”
