Today’s Sermon Title
For What Is Your Life?
By- Evangelist Gary Huckaby
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." James 4:14.
Have you ever ask yourself any of the following questions?
Why am I here?
Who am I?
Where am I going? What happens at the end of my life?
Do I con troll my future?
What is life all about?
Maybe you have never ask any of these questions, but I have, and have often reviewed them in my heart and life. The thoughts I have had in answer to some of those questions has been mind boggling to me at times too. I would like to be very personal in this message, so please listen carefully and by God’s Spirit I pray you will leave here with some satisfying answers that will forever comfort your hearts.
Why Am I Here?
To consider the essence of existents, we must go back to the beginning of mankind. There are many conclusions that man has come to when reasoning about this question; "Why Am I Here?"
Everything Just Happened, All is here because of A Big Bang. Everything has always existed, but will one day cease to exist. There is an deity that created all that exists. Every reasoning mind tells us that everything starts at some point, and to start everything there must first be someone or something that starts it. So what or who started me to exist?
A human being was begun in the mind of God. Long before our person enters this earthly body, we already existed with God. Can I prove this from Scripture? I believe that I can. Look at the proof in Scripture.
"Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them."
Psalms 139:16.
David the king of Israel when contemplating this very question of why he was created says that he knew God had created him, and that God was everywhere with him. David says that God saw him as unperfect, but that God kept a book wherein all of his members was written even before they were created.
Again, Solomon gives proof of a pre-existent of himself in Proverbs 8:23-30, where he states; "The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;" Notice he said, "before the mountains were settled, or before the hills, I was brought forth." Before anything material was made by the :Lord I was there.
When God said; "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." Genesis 1:26. man was already in the heart and mind of God. By the way, who do you think that God was talking to there? It was the Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that decided to create mankind. Our life exist because God decided to create us. Every soul is created because God made it so. Again in Revelation 4:11, we have a clear answer as to our purpose for life; "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." We are created to have fellowship with God, and to give God, glory, honor, and power; to please Him! This powerful verse answers many questions we ask. Why am I here? Who am I? Why? Because God willed it so. Who? A creation of Almighty God, His highest creation is mankind.
Before man was created, Lucifer was God’s highest creation. He was called son of the morning, the anointed cherub that coveted. Isaiah 14:12, says; "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!"
