I. EXORDIUM:

How many times do you eat and drink?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To prove that JESUS is complete food: food and drink for all of us.

IV. TEXT:

John 6:35 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

V. THESIS:

JESUS CHRIST is bread and drink of life and for life

VI. TITLE:

Food That Gives Life

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: John Mark

B. Place of Writing: Rome

C. Date of Writing: prior A.D. 63

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Our LORD is the food that gives life

"Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life."

1. Bread came from the Greek word:"artos" meaning bread or loaf

2. The 5000 men who got fed missed the Bread of Life and just settled for the bread that perishes and expires, so they're interested in the physical food not in the body of the LORD JESUS CHRIST which gives life forever.

John 6:48 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Yes, I am the bread of life!

John 6:26-27 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs.

But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”

3. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled up by the LORD JESUS CHRIST that no food or drink on earth can equal.

Matthew 5:6 (New International Version)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

B. Those who come to the LORD will never hunger

"Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again."

1. Hunger came from the Greek word:"peinao" meaning to famish, to crave

Isaiah 49:10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

They will neither hunger nor thirst. The searing sun will not reach them anymore. For the Lord in his mercy will lead them; he will lead them beside cool waters.

Luke 6:25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

What sorrow awaits you who are fat and prosperous now, for a time of awful hunger awaits you. What sorrow awaits you who laugh now, for your laughing will turn to mourning and sorrow.

Revelation 7:16 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun.

2. There will come a time as prophesied that we will abandon the use of physical food and drink and now is that time, when we all come to the LORD JESUS CHRIST for food, we will no longer crave for this world but will only feed on the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

C. Those who believe the LORD will never thirst

"Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."

John 6:47-51 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.

Yes, I am the bread of life!

Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died.

Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”

John 6:53-58 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.

But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.

I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me.

I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”

The first invite to the Holy Communion by the LORD JESUS CHRIST was rejected and resulted in the people deserting the LORD. (John 6:66)

John 6:66 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him.

1. Only the LORD JESUS CHRIST satisfies. The LORD JESUS CHRIST have given to us the food to eat to do the will of GOD because He sits at the right hand of GOD.
