Romans 8:35-39

Followers of Jesus Christ are loved conquerors. They walk in victory because of what Jesus did for them on the cross. They may suffer and face difficulty, but they are more than conquerors in the midst of it all. They can not be separated from the love of Jesus, the One they follow.

SUFFERING DOES NOT SEPARATE FROM CHRIST’S LOVE.

Listen to these words written by the Apostle Paul under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:35-36 NIV) "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? {36} As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.""

Paul knew about suffering. He was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked and imprisoned as he endeavored to follow Jesus from earth to glory and continue the Lord’s ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit. He never lost heart though. He stayed focused. Paul was able to do this because he realized that no suffering or hardship could separate him from the love that Christ had for him and demonstrated to him on the cross. He walked in victory and was able to sing praise to the Lord even in the midst of a cold, damp, rodent infected prison cell. Paul found the love of Christ that helped him endure all things.

Many suffer today. People are under horrific and hellish attacks. No matter what suffering comes your way, please know that it can never separate you from Christ’s love for you. You may face trouble or hardship or persecution or hunger or terror or violence, but never lose heart. Christ loves you so much He died on the cross so that you can be more than a conqueror!

What in your life causes you great distress and suffering? Please know that it is conquered through Christ!

SUFFERING IS CONQUERED THROUGH CHRIST.

Suffering does not separate us from the love of Christ. Suffering draws us to the love of Christ as we are reminded of the suffering Christ endured for us on the cross. The cross is a sign of our victory.

The Apostle Paul writes (Romans 8:37 NIV) "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." Our suffering is conquered through Christ and what He did for us at the cross. Jesus died for our sins. He stood in the gap for us and shielded us from God’s wrath. He took our punishment so that we can have eternal life around the throne of God. Jesus endured the cross and won our victory. We are more than conquerors through Him!

Jesus told his followers (John 16:33 NIV) "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Followers of Christ will have trouble in this world, but they will have no trouble in God’s Kingdom that is coming. Victory has been won through Jesus Christ! Our victory is in Jesus! He sought us and He bought us with His redeeming blood! Our present suffering does not compare to the glory which will come as we take up our cross and follow Jesus.

That’s the good news of God. Suffering comes to us in this world, but it can never separate us from the love of Christ. Suffering is conquered through Christ. That’s good news, but there is more! Nothing separates us from God’s love!

NOTHING SEPARATES FROM GOD’S LOVE.

The Apostle Paul goes on and writes (Romans 8:38-39 NIV) "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, {39} neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

God demonstrated His love for us while we were still yet sinners. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to the cross to die for our sins. When Jesus died on the cross, God’s love for us was finished. That means that God’s love for us is complete. There is nothing we can do that will make God love us any more and there is nothing that we can do that will make God love us any less. God’s love frees you up from legalism. God’s love frees you up from the condemnation of others. He is resting in His love for you and nothing can separate you from that love. It was completed at the cross.

Beloved, as a follower of Christ, you are a loved conqueror. Your victory was won at the cross and God’s love for you was completed at the cross. As you follow Jesus, you follow Him as a loved conqueror. Rejoice in Him and be glad!
