Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Small beginnings can lead to great things. If we do little things well, God will do big things through us. We should not underestimate the power of small beginnings and the impact they can have.
Ever tried flying a kite? It's not as easy as it looks, right? You've got to get the angle just right, run at the right speed, and let out just enough string. But once it's up there, soaring in the sky, it's pretty awesome.
Back in 1847, a guy named Charles Ellet Jr. had to build a bridge across a massive gorge. Guess how he did it? He started with a kite. A kid won a contest by flying his kite across the gorge, and they used the kite string to pull a rope, then a cable, and eventually, they built a bridge. Crazy, huh? But it all started with a small kite string.
But it all started with a small kite string.
Zerubbabel was given a huge job - rebuilding the temple in Judah. God told him it wasn't going to be by his own strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit. That's the difference between what we can do and what God can do through us. We've got to have faith and speak to the mountains in our lives, knowing that God can move them. But remember, our prayers should always line up with God's will and bring Him glory.
Don't get bummed out by the size of your dreams or the problems you're facing. Face the facts, but keep your faith strong. Even a little faith can move mountains. And focus on the small habits that can make a big difference over time.
Even a little faith can move mountains.
In Zechariah 4:10, God tells Zerubbabel not to look down on small beginnings. God's stoked about the work that starts, even if it seems tiny. Start small, think long. Set a start date, set small goals that lead to your big dreams. And celebrate your progress along the way.
So, what's your kite? What small thing can you start doing today that could lead to something big? Don't underestimate the power of small beginnings. God's thinking about more than just you, He's thinking about future generations. Keep a long-term perspective and stay committed to your goals.
Don't underestimate the power of small beginnings.
God, help us to start small, to have faith, and to trust in the power of Your Holy Spirit. Help us to not despise small beginnings but to celebrate each step we take towards our goals. In Jesus' name, Amen.
