Summary: We don’t fight a flesh and blood giant with natural weapons, so what do the five smooth stones of David symbolize for me? How can I use them effectively against my giants?

1 Sam 17:40 ¶ And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him (five smooth stones) out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling.

Here are what I believe these 5 smooth stones represent in the life of the child of God

(CALLED)

1 Cor 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Pet 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

1Thes 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

(CHOSEN)

1 Sam 16:10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

1 Sam 16:11-13

11And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

12And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

1 Pet 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

(ANOINTED)

13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.

2 Cor 1:21

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

I Jn 2:27

27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

(SENT)

David was on the battle scene by divine direction: he had been sent there by his father,

John 3:28

Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

John 12:44

Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me

John 17:18

18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

(YOU ARE NOT ALONE)

John 8:16

16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

2 Tim 4:16-17

16At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

17Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

With these five stones hidden in the believers heart I believe he or she is destined to win.
