Summary: Fishing takes commitment. If one is to be a successful fisherman one must apply five basic rules to there fishing endeavors.
Introduction
Fishing takes commitment. If one is to be a successful fisherman one must apply five basic rules to there fishing endeavors.
Luke listed these five basic rules in his gospel. However in this parable one must see that the message has a deeper meaning than that which one might first see.
Some old sayings about fishing:
(Old fishermen never die; they just smell that way.)
Wanted a wife that loves the outdoors and loves to fish. Send picture of boat.
1. A Commitment to Keep You Equipment Clean
and Working.
Luke 5:2
And saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets.
Studying your Bible regularly
(Keeping your boat in working order)
Memorizing Verses
(Studying the formations of Lakes)
Meditating on God’s Word
(Try to think like a fish, know what weather, water color, and habitat effects fish)
Praying daily
(Talking regularly with other fishermen)
2. A Commitment to go where the Fish Are.
Luke 5:4
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."
Seeking lost Souls
(Going to the fishing holes)
3. A Commitment to Fish when you get there.
Luke 5:5-6
But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." 6And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

4. A Commitment to Help Other Fishermen.
Luke 5:7
So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

(Become a professional fisherman)
5. A Commitment to Give Fishing Top Priority.
Luke 5:11
So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.
Serving God should be your number one priority.
