Explores the spiritual significance of offering firstfruits to God, and how this act of faith can lead to blessings and spiritual protection.
Beloved, I am thrilled to be standing before you today, to share with you a message that I believe will inspire, motivate, and challenge us all to reevaluate our relationship with God and the way we honor Him with our lives.
Today, we will be turning our hearts and minds to the book of Exodus, specifically, Exodus 23:14-16. This passage, though often overlooked, holds profound truths and promises that can transform our lives in unimaginable ways.
The Festival of Harvest, also known as the Festival of Firstfruits, was a time when the Israelites would bring the first portion of their crops to the Lord as an offering. This was not just a random selection of crops, but the very first and best of what they had harvested. It was a way of acknowledging that everything they had came from God, and that they trusted Him to provide for their needs.
A tangible expression of their faith: It was a way of saying, "God, I trust you. I trust that you will provide for me, even if I give away the first and best of what I have." It was a bold statement of faith, and it was a way of putting God first in their lives.
Our lives today: We may not be farmers with crops to offer, but the principle of firstfruits still applies. It's about giving God the first and best of what we have, whether that's our time, our talents, or our resources. It's about putting God first in every area of our lives.
Give God our firstfruits: When we do this, we are acknowledging that everything we have comes from Him. We are expressing our gratitude for His provision, and we are demonstrating our trust in His continued provision. We are saying, "God, I trust you to provide for me, even if I give away the first and best of what I have." But the principle of firstfruits is not just about giving. It's also about receiving. When we give God our firstfruits, we position ourselves to receive His blessings. We open the door for Him to pour out His favor and provision in our lives.
The book of Malachi: God challenges His people to test Him in this. He says, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it." This is the promise of firstfruits. When we give God our first and best, He promises to bless us in return. He promises to provide for our needs, and to pour out His blessings in abundance.
The blessings are spiritual: When we give God our firstfruits, we draw closer to Him. We deepen our relationship with Him, and we grow in our faith. We experience the joy of giving, and the peace that comes from trusting in His provision.
