Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
The joy of the Lord is our strength. Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning.
The topic of today's sermon is joy. We all experience discouragement and bad days, but God has provided us with joy to strengthen us.
Psalm 30:5 says that weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. Isaiah 61:3 tells us that God gives us beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. These verses remind us that even in our darkest times, God provides us with joy.
Joy is not just a temporary feeling of happiness based on external circumstances. It is an inward satisfaction that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. Nehemiah 8:10 says that the joy of the Lord is our strength. When we have salvation and walk in the truth of God's word, we can rejoice because our names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Salvation is what brings us true joy. It is not about material possessions or worldly success. Our joy comes from knowing that Jesus saved our souls from eternal damnation. In the midst of trials and difficulties, we can still have joy because we have salvation.
Having joy is important because it affects our witness to others. We should not approach people with a frown or a sour expression when sharing the gospel or inviting them to church. Instead, we should have joy and excitement. When we have joy, we go from doubt to trust, from complaining to confidence, and from relying on man to relying on God. Joy is what brings revival and leads to the salvation of souls.
Joel 1:9-12 warns about the consequences of lacking joy. When joy withers away, the harvest is affected. If we want to see a harvest of souls, we need to have joy. So, let us shout, dance, sing, and clap with joy in our hearts. Let us remember the goodness of Jesus and all that He has done for us. Let us be filled with joy and share it with others.
In conclusion, joy is not dependent on our circumstances but on our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is a deep sense of happiness and satisfaction that comes from knowing Him. We should rejoice in our salvation and let our joy be a witness to others. May we always remember that the joy of the Lord is our strength.
