Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
In a world often filled with chaos and cruelty, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. This sermon explores how we can find peace and value in human life, even in the midst of turmoil.
Once again, we are shocked by the turmoil that has arisen, not just among individuals, but even between nations. Time and time again, we have witnessed the cruelty of some people and the disregard for human life. In the midst of these troubling times, it is crucial for us to pay attention to the words of Jesus, who challenges us to focus on the faithfulness of God rather than our worries and fears.
Jesus commands us three times in Matthew 6:25-34 to not worry or be anxious. Worry is a destructive force that can tear us apart emotionally and accomplish nothing. It is a sin that accuses God of being a liar, as He promises to meet all our needs and direct our future. Instead of worrying, we should trust in God's providential care.
1. Observe God's Provision: Jesus encourages us to look at the birds of the air, who do not sow or reap or store in barns, yet are fed by our heavenly Father. If God takes care of the birds, how much more will He take care of us, who are more valuable to Him? We need to believe in His promises and be content with what He has supplied.
2. Maintain Proper Priorities: Our priorities should be in order - God, people (especially family), job, and self. When we keep these priorities straight, God promises to supply our needs and grant us peace of mind.
3. Focus on the Eternal: We must shift our focus from the temporary to the eternal. The unseen is more important than what is seen. Our light and momentary troubles are achieving an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. Instead of worrying about tomorrow, we should fix our eyes on what is unseen and trust in God's faithful guidance.
In conclusion, we need to trust in God's provision and live one day at a time. Let us rejoice and be glad in each day that the Lord has made. Worrying accomplishes nothing and only steals our joy and peace. Instead, let us place our trust in God, maintain proper priorities, and focus on the eternal. Remember, as the birds of the air are cared for by our heavenly Father, so are we.
