Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores strengthening our spiritual connection with God, seeking reconciliation, and the importance of active participation in a Christian community.
Good morning, blessed family of God! It is a joy to be with you today, to share in the fellowship of Christ, and to delve into the treasures of His Word. We are gathered here, not by accident, but by divine design, to encourage one another, to uplift each other, and to collectively draw closer to our Maker.
Debra Fileta once said, "What if our loneliness is the result not simply of needing a partner but of needing people? We are made in the image of a relational God; it makes sense that we possess the desire to be together." This is a profound truth that resonates with us today. The more we immerse ourselves in a God-filled community, the more we find that our lives, though challenged, are not falling apart.
In the garden of Gethsemane, we see Jesus in a moment of deep anguish. He was fully aware of the suffering that lay ahead of Him. Yet, in His sorrow, He did not turn away from God. Instead, He drew closer. He sought solace and strength in prayer. He surrendered His will to the Father, saying, "Yet not as I will, but as you will." This is a powerful example for us. In our moments of trial and tribulation, we too must seek to strengthen our connection with God. We do this through prayer, through surrender, and through trust in His will.
Prayer: This is our direct line of communication with God. It is not a mere ritual or a religious obligation. It is a heartfelt conversation with our Creator. It is a time to pour out our hearts, to express our deepest desires, and to seek His guidance. In prayer, we acknowledge our dependence on God. We recognize that we are not self-sufficient. We need His wisdom, His strength, and His grace. We need His love, His mercy, and His peace. And so, we pray. We pray with sincerity. We pray with humility. We pray with faith.
Surrender: It’s not about giving up or admitting defeat. It is about yielding to the will of God. It is about recognizing that His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. It is about trusting in His wisdom, His timing, and His plan. Surrender is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength. It takes courage to let go of our control and to place our lives in the hands of God. It takes faith to believe that He knows what is best for us, even when we cannot see the way ahead.
Trust in God's will: It’s not always easy to understand why certain things happen in our lives. We may face hardships and heartaches that seem unbearable. We may encounter obstacles and setbacks that seem insurmountable. But we must remember that God is sovereign. He is in control. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. And His will is always good, pleasing, and perfect. Therefore, we must trust in Him. We must believe that He is working all things together for our good, even when we cannot see it.
Psalm 23: Here, we see the beautiful imagery of God as our shepherd. He leads us beside quiet waters. He refreshes our soul. He guides us along the right paths. This is a picture of a deep, intimate relationship with God. It is a picture of a spiritual connection that is strong and secure. It is a picture of a life that is centered on God, rooted in His love, and guided by His Word.
Ecclesiastes: Here, we are reminded of the value of companionship and community. We are not meant to walk this Christian journey alone. We need the support and encouragement of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We need their prayers, their wisdom, and their love. And they need ours. Together, we can strengthen our spiritual connection. Together, we can grow in our faith. Together, we can fulfill the mission that God has given us.
