The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did as he was told.

V. THESIS:

Express our faith thru love.

Galatians 5:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

VI. TITLE:

Feet in Law versus Grace

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: uncertain probable Joshua

B. Leading Topic: Conquest and division of the land of Canaan

C. Key Thought: How to be successful in the battles of life?

Joshua 1:8-9 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Under the Law, the owner of the feet should remove the sandals under GOD's Presence

Exodus 3:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.

1. Sandals or shoes came from Hebrew word: "nahal" meaning a symbol of occupancy, a refusal to marry, something valueless

GOD wants to occupy us as a inhabitant of us, He wants to marry us and give us a name, not for us to hold on to something of no value to Him.

2. GOD is the same, He dealt the same with Moses and Joshua under the law, He dealt the same with His disciples under grace but His manifestations or presentation are different.

Hebrews 13:8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

3. His presentations to Moses and Joshua brought fear.

1 John 3:21 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.

2 Timothy 1:7 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

1 John 4:18 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

B. Under Grace, the sandals were removed from the feet, washed and wipe dry by our LORD JESUS CHRIST (John 13:5, John 1:17)

1. We loved GOD because He first loved us. While we're still sinners CHRIST died for us.

Spend our time loving GOD more because of His finished work not focus ourselves on our works or efforts.

John 13:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

John 1:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

2. His presentations or manifestations brought more love, respect and fear (this time motivated by love, respect out of love) (1 John 4:19, Galatians 5:6)

1 John 4:19 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

We love each other because he loved us first.

Galatians 5:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

3. If we want to practice our faith, then express it in love for each other. (Galatians 5:6, 1 John 4:18)

Galatians 5:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

1 John 4:18 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Express our faith thru love.

Galatians 5:6 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.
