Summary: Do you feed your children? We must feed our children in Christ you must have a part in it.

John 21 >>> Feeding time

ILL I had a deformed calf once but he died because didn’t care for him well enough. I was to immature.

Do you feed your children?

We must feed our children in Christ you must have a part in it.

It begins with

I. A Call from God

1After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself:

A. He shows Himself to all his disciples.

2Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. 3Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

B. He shows Himself where ever we go.

4But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” 6And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.

C. He shows Himself by His intervention

7Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. 8But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish. 9Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.” 11Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken. 12Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.”

D. He shows Himself and we just know.

Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?”—knowing that it was the Lord. 13Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. 14This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.

II. A Commitment to God

JN 21:15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

1st Question: “Do you love me with 100% commitment?”

1. In light of his recent denial

2. 3 questions for 3 denials

3. More than these -- fish, disciples, people... peer pressure

Response: “Yes I love you with the love of a Brother”

16He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

2nd. Question: “Do you love me with 100% commitment?”

Response: “Yes I love you with the love of a Brother”

17He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”

3rd. Question: “Do you love me with the love of a Brother?”

Response: “Yes I love you with the love of a Brother”

God knew his heart and questioned even his shallow level of commitment.

III A Command from God

15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

1. Graze my baby lambs --

Feed (Gr boskoµ, feed, graze, or tend to) my lambs. Christ is commissioning Peter to a ministry of caring for His sheep.

2. v16 >>>He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”

Feed (Gr poimainoµ, shepherd) my sheep.

3. v17 “Feed My sheep.

Matt 18:12

12“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13“And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14“Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
