Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores Jesus as the bread of life, emphasizing spiritual nourishment over physical, and the importance of faithfulness and fostering a Godly home.
Welcome, family of faith, to this wonderful gathering where we come together to share in the wisdom of God’s word. How blessed we are to have this opportunity to learn, to grow, and to be nourished by the divine teachings that guide our lives. We come here, not just as individuals, but as a community, bound together by the love of Christ, sharing in the joy of His message, and carrying His light out into the world.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the book of John, specifically John 6:25-35. This passage, rich with meaning and ripe for reflection, provides us with a framework to understand our roles, our duties, and our purpose in God’s grand design. Here, we find Jesus teaching us about faithfulness, about feeding our families – both physically and spiritually – and about fostering a Godly home.
Let’s read the passage together:
[Read passage]
In the words of the great preacher Charles Spurgeon, "You say, 'If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.' You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled." How true these words ring, as we reflect on Jesus's teaching about the bread of life.
Let us now open our hearts in prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day, for this gathering, and for Your word that nourishes our souls. We ask that You open our hearts and minds to receive Your teachings. Guide us as we seek to understand and apply Your word in our daily lives. Help us to be faithful in our roles, to feed our families both physically and spiritually, and to foster a home that is pleasing to You. In Jesus's name, we pray. Amen.
Let’s get started!
In the passage we read from John, Jesus speaks to us about the importance of faithfulness in our daily lives. He tells us not to work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life. This is a call for us to be faithful in our roles, whether they be as parents, children, employees, or friends.
We are all given roles in life: Some of us are parents, tasked with raising our children in a loving, nurturing environment. Others are employees, working diligently to provide for our families and contribute to society. Still others are friends, offering support and companionship to those around us. Each of these roles comes with its own set of responsibilities, and it is our duty to fulfill these responsibilities with faithfulness.
What does it mean to be faithful in our roles?: It means to carry out our duties with integrity, honesty, and dedication. It means to stay true to our commitments, even when it's difficult. It means to put in the effort, day in and day out, to do our best in whatever role we've been given.
This is not always easy: Life is full of challenges and obstacles that can make it difficult to stay faithful. We may face hardships at work, struggles in our personal lives, or conflicts in our relationships. But Jesus tells us not to work for the food that perishes - the temporary, worldly rewards that come with fulfilling our roles. Instead, we should work for the food that endures to eternal life - the spiritual rewards that come with faithfulness.
Integrity: Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. It's about staying true to our values and principles, even when it's hard. When we act with integrity in our roles, we are showing our faithfulness to God.
Honesty: Honesty is about being truthful in our words and actions. It's about being transparent and open, not hiding or deceiving. When we act with honesty in our roles, we are showing our faithfulness to God.
Dedication: Dedication is about commitment and perseverance. It's about sticking to our tasks and responsibilities, even when it's tough. When we act with dedication in our roles, we are showing our faithfulness to God.
Effort: Effort is about putting in the work, day in and day out. It's about giving our all, not just doing the bare minimum. When we put in effort in our roles, we are showing our faithfulness to God.
