This sermon explores how to draw inspiration from the faith of Biblical heroes, specifically Moses' parents, to live out breakthrough faith in today's world.
Good morning, beloved. It's a joy to gather together once again in the house of the Lord, to bask in His presence and to seek His face. We are here to engage with the Word, to let it shape us, mold us, and inspire us to live lives that are pleasing to our Heavenly Father.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to a passage that is rich with lessons and examples for us to learn from. We're going to look at Hebrews 11:23, a verse that shines a light on the incredible faith of the Biblical heroes, and how we can draw strength and inspiration from their unwavering belief in God. We're going to talk about bracing ourselves for breakthrough faith, and how we can become examples of faith in our world today.
J.I. Packer once said, "Faith is a reasoning trust, a trust which reckons thoughtfully and confidently upon the trustworthiness of God." And isn't that what we see in the heroes of the Bible? A thoughtful, confident trust in the trustworthiness of God.
Let's read together Hebrews 11:23, "By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict."
Oh, what faith Moses' parents had! Despite the king's decree, they chose to trust in God and His plans. They chose faith over fear. And isn't that a choice we're often faced with in our lives today?
Let's bow our heads and open our hearts in prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Word, a guidebook for our lives, filled with examples of men and women who trusted in You, even when circumstances were difficult. As we open our hearts to Your Word today, we ask that You open our eyes to see the lessons You have for us, open our ears to hear Your voice, and open our hearts to receive Your truth. Help us to brace ourselves for breakthrough faith, and to become examples of faith in our world today. We ask all this in the precious name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
When we look at the life of Moses, we see a man who was chosen by God to lead His people out of Egypt. But before Moses could become the leader he was destined to be, his parents had to make a choice. They had to decide whether to obey the king's edict or to trust in God. They chose the latter, and in doing so, they set an example of faith that we can learn from today.
The faith of Moses' parents was not a passive acceptance of their circumstances. It was an active, deliberate choice to trust in God's plan for their son. They didn't know what the future held for Moses, but they knew who held the future. They believed that God had a purpose for Moses, and they were willing to risk everything to see that purpose fulfilled.
This is the kind of faith that we are called to have. A faith that trusts in God's plan, even when we can't see the end result. A faith that is willing to take risks, to step out of our comfort zones, and to trust that God will guide us every step of the way.
The faith of Moses' parents was not a blind faith. They didn't just hope that everything would work out. They believed in God's promises, and they acted on that belief. They hid Moses for three months, defying the king's edict and risking their own lives in the process. Their faith was not just a belief in their hearts, it was a belief that was lived out in their actions.
This is the kind of faith that we are called to have. A faith that is not just a belief in our hearts, but a belief that is lived out in our actions. A faith that is willing to take action, to do what is right, even when it is difficult. A faith that is willing to stand up for what we believe in, even when it is unpopular. The faith of Moses' parents was not a faith that was based on their own strength or abilities. They didn't rely on their own wisdom or understanding. They relied on God. They trusted in His wisdom, His understanding, and His power. They knew that they couldn't hide Moses on their own, but they believed that with God, all things were possible.
This is the kind of faith that we are called to have. A faith that is not shaken by fear. A faith that trusts in God, even when we are faced with difficult circumstances. A faith that believes that God is with us, and that He will protect us.
