FAITH
By-Evangelist Gary Huckaby D.D.
Hebrews 11:1-3. (Our Text)
* Faith is believing something, acting as if it is already done, and it will be so done as you have believed." (verse 1).
Dead Faith.
James 2:14-20,
What doeth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in Peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works IS DEAD, being alone. Yea a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well; the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works IS DEAD.
-Dead faith says I believe, but I won’t act as if it will happen.
-I believe, but I’m not going to do anything to bring my faith to reality, both to myself, nor to others.
*Faith without WORKS is DEAD.
Do you have this Faith? Dead Faith? Sure you believe, but your not working to prove it. Paul said, Acts 9:6, "Lord, what wilt thou have me to DO?" I am not talking about working to obtain salvation. I am talking about working from salvation. What have you done for the Lord since you were saved? For we are not saved by works, but by Grace. However after we have received Christ as our Savior we then go to work to show others our salvation in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8-9; For by Grace are ye saved through Faith ; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of Works, lest any man should boast. Romans 4:1-4, What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God, For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of Grace, but of debt.
2. VAIN FAITH
1 Corinthians 15:12-19,
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen; And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your FAITH is also VAIN. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God, that he raised up Christ; whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised; And if Christ be not raised, your FAITH is VAIN; ye are yet in your sins. Then they which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
-Vain Faith says, I believe in a Christ, but not someone who was raised from the dead. I don’t believe a person can be raised from the dead anyway.
-This is a person who is an unbeliever, lost and on the way to the lake of fire, doomed forever, separated from the resurrected Christ whom they chose not to believe in. Vain Faith is Faith that is always in VAIN.
- This word VAIN is also used in one of the ten commandments." Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in VAIN;" Exodus 20:7.
-Vain Faith is lost faith, don’t be caught with it for eternity’s sake, and your sake!
3. LITTLE FAITH
Matthew 6:25-34
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body more that raiment? Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not neither do they spin; And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field which today is , and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of LITTLE FAITH? Therefore take no thought saying, What shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or where-withal shall we be clothed? [for after all these things do the Gentiles seek:] for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all those things. But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself, Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
