Summary: Faith is your response to God’s promise and the acceptance of creation as the work of God.

A. INTRODUCTION: FAITH IS CONFIDENT EXPECTATION

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1, NKJV

“Faith is the confidence that tells us what will actually happen in the future, it gives assurance about things we cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1, ELT

1. Faith is a title deed to your home in heaven. You own the house and property, but it is not here right now, and you don’t live in it yet.

2. Faith is your response to God’s promise. It is not:

a. A leap into the dark.

b. Positive thinking.

c. Blind expectations.

d. Faith in faith.

3. Solid foundation. “Jesus said, ‘have faith in God’” (Mark 11:22). If your eye is healthy, it can see, if your ear is healthy it can hear, if the heart is healthy, it can believe.

B. FAITH IS BIBLICAL VISION

“Where there is no vision the people perish, but they can find life’s purpose in God’s word.” Proverbs 29:18, ELT

1. People without a vision only exist, people with vision take hold of life.

a. What is your spiritual goal in life?

b. What is your occupational goal in life?

c. What is your family goal in life?

2. Faith is your response to what God says. “Faith comes from hearing God’s Word and obeying it” (Romans 10:17, ELT).

a. Problem: our inability/unwillingness to see beyond the present.

b. Can we see the road/future where God is waiting for us?

c. We live at “right now.” God lives at “not yet.” He sees our needs before we get there.

d. Solution. “God shall provide all your needs” (Philippians 4:19). The word provides comes from pre-see.

3. Indiana Jones must cross the chasm. His father Dr. Henry Jones is dying. His dad’s diary says, “Only a leap from the lion’s mouth will prove his worth.” His leap of faith became a solid rock bridge to walk over the chasm. He must step out.

C. FAITH IS ACCEPTING GOD’S GUARANTEE

“For by it (faith) the elders received a good report.” Hebrews 11:2, KJV

“For by faith, men of old received communication from Heaven.” Hebrews 11:2, ELT

1. “Received a good report,” literally means, “heard and understood a communication from God.”

2. You have the title deed to Heaven (Bible). God communicates to you His approval or guarantees it.

D. FAITH’S UNDERSTANDING GOD’S WORD ABOUT CREATION

1. Faith is recognizing God as Creator of the universe.

“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:3, NKJV

“By faith we understand that the Heavens and the earth were created by the word of God, so that which we see came from that which cannot be seen.” Hebrews 11:3, ELT

2. God does not explain how He did it, He does not argue the world’s creation, He simply presents its existence. Faith is recognizing God is the Creator.

3. Faith is acceptance of creation as the work of God.
