Message Point: You can have it all and still miss the mark.

Focus Passage: I Kings 3:1-3 & 11:1-6

Supplemental Passage: I John 2:15-17

I. The Mistake of Unholy Alliances

a. II Cor. 6 warns about “being unequally yoked”. This has more to do with than just marriage. Don’t seek counsel from the world. Seek Godly counsel.

II. The Mistake of Allowing Dark Corners to Remain

a. Solomon loved God, but tolerated incense burning in “high places”. Don’t let sin hide in a corner in your life. Commandments 1 & 2.

b. God doesn’t get glory from, nor is He pleased with simply getting corner of our lives. He gets glory from wholly following Him and giving Him all areas of our lives.

III. The Mistake of Allowing the World to Draw Us Away from God

1Jn 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

1Jn 2:17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

a. God gave Solomon what he asked for (wisdom) and much, much more. However, the “more” caused Solomon to divide his attention away from God.

b. Don’t end up with a summary of your life “Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not follow the LORD fully”.

Invitation: Has your devotion for the Lord been divided? Are you no longer “hot or cold” for the Lord? Has your love for Christ weakened? Has your passion for Him faded? Jesus is today, standing at the door of your heart knocking, waiting, listening to be restored as the Lord and Master of your life. Repent of your sin and enthrone Him once again in the center of your heart. He allows no rivals; proclaim Him as Lord alone.
