Summary: We all face various uncertainties in life. Joshua is a good example for us in handling uncertainties.

We all face challenges in life. There are times even uncertainties that perplexes us. Sometime we just become so lost thinking what lays ahead of us in life.

The Joshua generation was not spared of such kind of experiences. In fact, their experiences were mind blowing and not something that we can even imagine of. Now after successfully crossing over Jordan, the actual conquest started. They have to now invade into Jericho a fortified city, the first among the many cities that they needed to battle and conquer. The city was surrounded by a massive and complex wall made of stones and rocks to protect the Nation from any enemy’s invasion. Archaeological finding proves that the Wall truly existed around 8000 BC and It was a massive wall.

Joshua 5:1 – There were no way into the City as the entrance was shut both side- no one can enter or leave the city. Joshua and the people had no idea of their enemy inside the city wall. Did not know their strength either.

How did Joshua and the people of Israel face these uncertainties?

1. Joshua 5:13-14 – Joshua humbled himself before God and Worshipped the Lord.

When Joshua knew he was talking to the Commander of the Lord’s army – he knew the Lord was encountering him so he immediately fell to the ground and worshipped God.

Trust the Lord who have called you! Humble before Him and worship Him! For we are His and we only have Him to take us through the uncertainties in life.

Humbling ourselves before God in worship must become a lifestyle and not just a weekend activity.

2. Joshua 5:15 – Acknowledge the Lord is Holy and Joshua removed his sandals.

God is Holy! His holiness will never be compromised at any circumstances or before anyone. We can not expect God to fight the battle when you don’t make your self holy. – HE a Holy God! You cannot expect God to work miracles in your life when you chose to live in your filth. God is Holy!

A Divine intervention was on the way but Joshua needed to be holy before the Lord.

Today as we face uncertainties in life God is also reminding us that HE is a Holy God and we need to come clean before Him.

3. Joshua 6:2-5 – God’s command may not necessarily make sense to you. But just OBEY!

The wall of Jericho was so great – too massive to be broken into. Instead of giving orders for the military strategies, God simply ordered them to march around the city walls for 6 days and on the 7th day the trumpet to be blown by the Priest and all the people should just shout out loudly – the wall will fall down!

Something that doesn’t make sense to normal people. But remember God’s ways are always higher than human’s (Isaiah 55:8-9).

All that is needed of us is to obey God’s command. Joshua did exactly (vs. 6) – that’s it – no argument – no clarification – no question – but just total obedience.

In facing uncertainties, we need to completely trust God and obey His command. When we obey, we will experience the greatness of God and witness every wall that stands as a stumbling block for our progression will crumple down. The battle belongs to the Lord when you just obey.
