Facing Our Giants

1 Samuel 17:38-47

Introduction: We all have difficulties in life. I would go so far as to say that some of them look insurmountable and impassable. They take the form of a giant of an issue. And there are times when we feel defeated before even getting to the battle. And those who we rely upon everyday are no help in defeating the foe. So what is a believer to do in circumstances that seem overwhelming?

1. When a giant is standing in front of you it blocks the view of God’s promise for you.

a. God wants you to be victorious and have the peace He has passed to his children

2. When facing giants people are eager to give advice.

a. David used what he knew works. Relying on God never will steer you wrong

3. When conquering giants remember it’s not about your ability

a. It is all about what God has done when you rely upon him. He deserves the praise

4. After you have moved on your journey remember as you give glory to God.

a. People are encouraged by your victories in their challenges.

Conclusion: God never passes up an opportunity to instruct us in leaning upon Him. Nor does he want us to fail in tackling those giants that seem impassable. He does mighty things with humble people who submit to His leading. David was victorious not because of his experience as a shepherd, His intelligence, nor his sparkling personality. He was victorious because he had a grasp upon something that we as believers often lose sight of. The battle belongs to the Lord. When we grasp this simple idea we are stepping into victory through Christ.
