Fabricated Blessings
Contributed by Theresa Odom-Surgick on Dec 5, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: In this sermon, we see how satan fabricated a statement and turned it into a lie, mocking God. In life, things aren’t always what that seem to be when handed to us. A real curse may be disguised as a blessing.
That scripture speaks for itself. Adam and Eve sowed to their flesh...lost a life of peace...lost a life of joy and comfort for a life of death and destruction! Remember, Cain, their son, killed Abel, his brother! (PAUSE)
We've now answered two of our three questions. The last question is "How do you avoid the Eve syndrome?" How do you avoid receiving a fabricated blessing? How do you know it's a curse and not a blessing? Remember, everything that glitters is not gold...all that looks good may not be good for you. So again, How do you avoid the Eve syndrome? Eve lusted in her heart, listened to satan and got caught in his demonic trap. How do you avoid that. Well first, if you are walking in the way of the Lord, which involves righteousness, your eyes will be focused on that which is holy and pure. You won't be so easily distracted by things that you know will not have a positive impact on your walk with the Lord. Focus is key! Praying for discernment is vital! Stop looking at the tree...stop lusting after something you cannot have or touch! Stay focused on the things that God says you can and will have! Stay focused on the promises of God!
How do you stay focused? Everyday of your life, even if it's just 30 minutes, you pray...you read God's word...you listen to praise music...you get yourself ready to face the day. It's about putting on the full armor of God.... you stand tall with the belt of truth buckled around your waist...speaking truth...living truth...being the truth of God. In this way, as a child of God, you will not expose yourself to ridicule. Truth keeps your integrity in check. Your righteousness will be like a sheet of protection...it's your breastplate covering your pure heart. And your sanctified feet will be in a place of peace. Blessed is the one that walks not in the presence of the ungodly, nor acts in the same way as sinners. You watch what you say...you're not mean spirited or contentious. But you are happy to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable to God and God alone. It doesn't matter what others may say or think about you, you just love the ways of the Lord, meditating day and night!
In every situation you take up your shield of faith. You walk by faith and not by sight. You talk in faith...no matter what it looks like, you say it before you see it. As you do so, you are extinguishing all the flaming arrows of unbelief and deception that satan is throwing your way. Your helmet of salvation covers your mind because that is the battleground for satanic attacks. You need that helmet along with your sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Read and study God's word. When satan fights your mind by putting contentious things in your mind, you fight him back with the word of God..."Greater is He that is in me than he who is in the world!" "I am more than a conqueror through Him that loves me." "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." And pray...Praying always not just for yourself, but for your brothers and sisters in the faith...pray for those who do not know Christ pardoning of their sins...pray for the backsliding saints that they will return to the household of faith! And if given the opportunity, open your mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.
