Summary: Learn to expect God to do that which is extraordinary. The Unexpected!
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
John 11:1-8; 14-17; 20-46
Expect - To look forward to, to anticipate, to look forward to the occurance of.
Unexpected - That which is not expected
What do you expect to happen when you come to God’s house?
When was the last time you came to God’s house expecting something to happen?
- You expect teachers to teach, singers to sing, preacher to preach. But when was the last time you came expecting God to do something?
- You may answer this as saying I expect God to be here or I expect God to show up and move so I can feel Him, and all of that is fine and good, however my question is simply this: When was the last time you said I am going to God’s house expecting my healing, expecting my miracle, expecting my deliverance?
- You say ok God I am expecting you to heal me? Not just to move or just to touch me - you can be touched by God and not be healed.
- You can call me crazy, dumb or whatever but I am expecting God to heal someone today! Why Not? Why should I not expect that? He is a healing God Right?
V. 21 - Martha knew that Jesus could have healed him if He had been there!
V. 22 - She knew that whatever she ask in His name He can do it.
Martha knew that Jesus could heal Lazuras and she expected it that is why her and Mary sent for Jesus so he could heal him! This is great!
BUT - she never expected the unexpected and what was the unexpected?
That Jesus would raise him fram the dead right then!
Martha was expecting it to occur at the last day but Jesus was ready and going to do the unexpected. But Mary and Martha did not expect Jesus to Raise him. The were expecting Jesus to heal him but he had died and here we go back to:
V. 4 - But for the glory of God, that the Son might be glorified!
Not Mary and Martha But the Son of God.
James 4:3 - Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Amplified:
James 4:3 - [Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.
Joh 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Amplified:
John 15:7 - If you live in Me [abide vitally united to me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you
Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Amplified:
Ephesians 3:20 - Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond out highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]
