EXCUSES, EXCUSES AT THE JUDGEMENT SEAT

2 COR 5:1-10

On that last day we will all be there, the books will be opened and all secrets will be revealed. Many will try to make excuses. This is a day when people make excuses for everything. On that last day excuses will all fall short. In this outline we list a few we expect to hear on that day. These excuses will not work at that Judgment seat. 2 Corinthians 5:10 (KJV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

I. We may hear; "I did not know enough" God will say, Psalms 119:105 (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

II. Lord I did not know which church to join.

Matthew 16:18 (KJV) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Matthew 7:7 (KJV) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

III. Lord I did not think I could hold out.

Philippians 4:13 (KJV) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Hebrews 10:24 (KJV) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

IV. Lord I thought being sincere was enough.

Matthew 7:21 (KJV) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

V. Lord, I thought my preacher was right.

Acts 17:11 (KJV) These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

VI. Lord, I paid my tithe to the church.

Acts 8:20 (KJV) But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

A. If you give what you do not need, it isn't giving.

B. Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure; where your treasure is, there is your heart; where your heart is, there is your happiness.

VII. Lord, I did not think I was good enough.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV) And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

VIII. Lord, I was afraid to offend my family.

Matthew 10:37 (KJV) He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

IX. Lord, going to church was not poplar.

Hebrews 10:25 (KJV) Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

X. Lord, there were too many hypocrites in the church.

Corinthians 5:10 (KJV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

XI. Lord, I thought there was plenty of time. Luke 12:20 (KJV) But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

XII. On that day there will be no excuses.

A. The books will be opened.

Revelation 20:12 (KJV) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

1. No excuses. We will be judged out of God's books.

2. A poor workman always finds fault with his tools.

3. According to a UPI news item, the Metropolitan Insurance Company received some unusual explanations for accidents from its automobile policyholders. The following are just few:

An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car, and vanished.

The other car collided with mine without warning me of its intention.

I had been driving my car for 40 years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had the accident.

As I reached an intersection, a hedge sprang up, obscuring my vision.
