Psalm 127:1 Except the Lord Build the House

1. THE BUILDING - 1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:

(a) The Vanity Here 1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it

i. Working is Vain - they labour in vain - Matt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

ii. Watching is Vain - except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts

iii. Worrying is Vain 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Matt 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

iv. Witnessing is Vain

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

(b) The Victory Here - 1 Except the LORD Zech 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

V That SAINTS ARE ENCOURAGED {ACTS 2:4} And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. VI That SCRIPTURES ARE EXPLAINED {1 Cor 2: 12} Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God

VII That SOLITUDE IS ERASED {John 14:16} And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

2. THE BUILDER

Heb 3:4; For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

(a) He Chooses the Character of the House John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

(b) He Guides the Construction of the House John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

(c) He Assures the Completion of the House Philippians 1:6; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3. THE BRICKIES

WE ARE THE LABOURERS 1 Cors 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
