Psalm 56:3 Every Now and then God shows up

1. The beginning of the Fire Side Chats

• The Fire Side chats were a series of radio addresses delivered by U.S. Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933 to 1944.

• President Roosevelt began to talk to Americans via Radio

• He talked about the place of banks, the new Deal, the Depression and WW11

• He did these chats to inform, to help people have hope during a time of great crisis, strengthen the confidence of Americans,

• God might want to talk to us today and what might God say to us? Maybe Every now and then I will show up.

2. God may want to say at the fire side chat, “First Don’t be afraid because every now and then God shows up.” Psalm 56: 3When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

• Jacob was a sojourner The Bible says He was set out for Haran 11When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.

• The Sojourner had a dream 12He saw the angels of God ascending and descending on a ladder

• Jacob the sojourner heard a word from the lord 13There above itE stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.

• “Jacob, “God says don’t be afraid, I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land.

• Jacob don’t be afraid for the Lord is in this place, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it." 17He was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven." “Every now and then God shows up”

3. Ruth was afraid but she trusted in God because every now and then God shows up.

• God showed up for Naomi in the form of Ruth who would help her

• Ruth chose to Go with Naomi even though Naomi told her to go back to her family But Ruth replied, "

• Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried.

• God showed up in the form of a song during VBS a boy was touched deeply

• God showed up during VBS an anointing service

4. At this fire side chat God wants to offer us some wisdom it was a lesson the kids learned. Don’t forget every now and then I will show up.

• 49"Why were you searching for me? “How is that ye sought me? Wist (to Know) ye not that I must be about my Fathers business?”

• God might be saying I have a business proposition for you if you want to go to heaven be about the fathers business

• If we will be about the Fathers business we will be blessed over and over and over again.

5. In Closing, our Fire Side chat know this Jesus can calm many storms because every now and then He shows up.

• For America God showed up in the form of fire side chats that informed, gave hope during crisis, and offered security for America in the 1930’s to 1944

• For Jacob God showed up in a vision he was in the presence of God and he knew it not

• For Naomi God showed up in the form of Ruth Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried.

• For Mary and Joseph God showed up in the form of Jesus who teaches us to be about the Fathers business recall Mary pondered all these things in her heart.

• For us God shows up to calm the storms remember he spoke to the storm peace be still”

• Church we were worried early on in our transition but God has showed up over and over

• God kept us together, some probably thinking I don’t want to be a part of this mess, others simply put I don’t know I am at a loss.

• God showed up in the form of children record amounts of kids,

• God has shown up in the form of attendances,

• God has showed up in the form of gifts Elaine Harper and an anonymous donor.
