Summary: Every man is a liar; therefore, I will put my trust in God alone. I will not rely on the words or actions of men, but instead, I will place my faith in the unchanging and faithful God.
Every man is a liar; therefore, I will put my trust in God alone. I will not rely on the words or actions of men, but instead, I will place my faith in the unchanging and faithful God.
This statement is a declaration of trust in God's sovereignty and faithfulness, despite the flaws and imperfections of human beings. It's a reminder that God is the only one who is completely trustworthy and true.
In a world where uncertainty and change are the only constants, it's comforting to know that there is one who remains unchanging and faithful. The Bible reminds us that "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind" (Numbers 23:19).
In a world where humans often fail us, God's unwavering nature is a beacon of hope. The psalmist declares, "Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save" (Psalm 146:3). Instead, we are encouraged to place our trust in the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
The prophet Isaiah reminds us that "God's ways are not our ways, neither are His thoughts our thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8). His plans are not limited by our understanding or hindered by our failures. His faithfulness is not dependent on our worthiness but rather on His own character.
In the midst of uncertainty, we can find comfort in the unchanging nature of God. As the apostle James writes, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17).
Let us anchor our hope in the One who is the Rock of Ages, the Unchanging One, and the Faithful God. As the psalmist declares, "The Lord is my rock, my refuge, and my savior—my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge" (Psalm 18:2).
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" - Jeremiah 17:9
The Bible warns us that every human heart is prone to deception and lies. This may seem like a harsh statement, but it's a reality that we must confront. In a world where truth is often distorted and manipulated, it's essential to remember that God's Word remains the ultimate standard of truth.
As the psalmist writes, "Every man is a liar" (Psalm 116:11). This verse is not meant to be a cynical condemnation of humanity but rather a sobering reminder of our natural inclination towards deception. The prophet Jeremiah echoes this sentiment when he says, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9).
The Bible teaches us that our hearts are capable of rationalizing and justifying even the most egregious sins. We may deceive ourselves and others, but we cannot deceive God. As Hebrews 4:13 reminds us, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."
So, how can we combat this tendency towards deception? First, we must acknowledge the truth about ourselves and our hearts. We must recognize that we are all capable of lying and deceiving others, and we must be willing to confront our own sin and weakness.
Second, we must turn to God's Word as our standard of truth. The Bible is our guide and our anchor in a world of deception and lies. As Psalm 119:160 declares, "Your word is truth."
Finally, we must seek to live a life of honesty and integrity, knowing that we will give an account to God for our actions. As the apostle Paul writes, "We should no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by cunning in deceitful scheming" (Ephesians 4:14).
- "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord." - Jeremiah 17:5
- "Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save." - Psalm 146:3
- "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind." - Numbers 23:19
In a world of uncertainty, God's unchanging nature is our hope, our refuge, and our salvation. May we find comfort in His faithfulness and trust in His unwavering love. Let us strive to be people of truth and integrity, knowing that our hearts are prone to deception but also knowing that God's grace and truth can set us free.
