Introduction: ??-?? abi-`ad

`ad = everlasting Or, eternal, or “unceasing in duration.

“Abi” = “Father.”

I. Eternal

a. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:1-5 NASB)

b. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." (Revelation 1:8 NASB)

c. "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." (Revelation 22:13)

II. Unchanging

a. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 NASB)

b. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. (James 1:17 NASB)

c. "You are My witnesses," declares the LORD, "And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me. (Isaiah 43:10 NASB)

d. "For I, the LORD, do not change;. (Malachi 3:6a NASB)

III. Father

a. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it! (Luke 13:34 NASB)

b. "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. "He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. " He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. "I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, (John 10:11-14 NASB)

c. The greatest expression of a father is to love and protect his children. Jesus shows us that kind of love in His death and promise to return for us.

Application/Invitation:

Are you an adopted child of the Father? The only way to the Father is indeed through Jesus Christ. Give your life to Him!
