Matthew 10:1-4 “He called to him his twelve disciples…the names of the twelve apostles…”

• 1st time Matthew records the twelve apostles (one who is sent out; an ambassador).

• The disciples are always listed in this manner:

o Peter (1st) Andrew, James, John.

o Philip (5th) Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew.

o James (9th) Thaddaeus, Simon and Judas.

? Peter/Philip/James had leadership positions/roles over the others.

? Jesus was establishing a discipleship culture.

• This is not a prohibition of the wider message of the Gospel but the priority of the message (the lost sheep).

• Why is there so much suffering in this world v How is God going to work through me to end the suffering in this world?

• Jesus wants us to trust him for the journey.

• Expect God to meet your needs!!

• We are on a journey of faith!

Matthew 10:11-15

• Peace will come to those who receive and accept the apostles.
