Some people despise wisdom, but those who fear the Lord will find it. To fear the Lord, we must understand our position before Him. This leads to wisdom.

The Right Attitude for Wisdom

Today, we're gonna talk about the right attitude to have when looking for wisdom. This attitude is often called the fear of the Lord.

Imagine you're panning for gold. You're sifting through dirt and rocks, hoping to find that shiny nugget. But what if you mistake fool's gold for the real thing? It looks like gold, but it's worthless. That's like us when we don't respect God. We might think we're wise, but we're just fooling ourselves.

We might think we're wise, but we're just fooling ourselves.

Respecting God

Respecting God does three things for us. These things will help us seek wisdom and understanding from Him. The first thing is awe.

It is so important to be in awe of God. In the book of Exodus, we see an example of this. When God showed up on Mount Sinai, the people were in awe. They saw His power through thunder and lightning. This awe leads us to trust God.

In Exodus, after the Israelites escaped from Egypt and crossed the Red Sea, they saw God's power and trusted Him. In the New Testament, Jesus is the one who starts and finishes our faith. He gives us faith and helps us grow in it. But sometimes, it's hard to trust in something we can't see. We might doubt the Bible and its stories. But Jesus says that those who trust without seeing Him will be blessed.

Respecting God also gives us a foundation. In Proverbs, it says that respecting God is the start of true knowledge. When we have a healthy view of God, it becomes the starting point for getting wisdom and understanding. Jesus teaches that building our lives on His Word is the only solid foundation.

Conclusion

As we wrap up today, think about the wisdom, knowledge, discipline, and growth you want. These can only come from God, and it starts with respecting Him. Let's stop chasing after worthless things and seek God and His wisdom. No more fool's gold, let's go for the real deal of a life lived in faith.

Let's pray together.
