The Eternal Existence of God

Those who live in this world have questions and deserve an answer from a well-studied perspective which can only come from Born-again Christians who have a heart’s desire to fulfill their call to preach the word. One of the questions which is on a lot of people’s minds is, “Who created God” or “Has God always existed?”

Being able to answer those questions through Biblical truth is the foundation to bringing peace to a disturbed world view which is now in conflict, unrest and misled. Now is a great time to teach about the eternal God the Father who has sent His eternal Son, Whom, is constant in our lives, the source of our strength, the heartbeat of our comfort and the foundation of all wisdom.

We know God is eternal for the Bible says, “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2) Psalm 93:2 enlightens us with, “Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.”

The Hebrew word for “everlasting,” which is sometimes translated as “eternity” (?????? ?ôlam) appears 440 times in Biblical Hebrew. 1 Chronicles 16:36 says, “Praise be to the Lord …from everlasting to everlasting.” From the most distant past time to the most distance future time. God is presented as the One Who existed before creation was brought into existence. - (Vine, W. E., Unger, M. F., & White, W., Jr. (1996). This Hebrew word refers to looking forward, but is also used many times expressing the idea of looking backward, in time beyond this temporal sphere, especially when used regrading God. - (Baker, W., & Carpenter, E. We are not to fall into trying to understand God the Father from the perspective our fathers being conceived in their mothers to the time of their death. We are not to compare the everlasting God to the point of time when the earth was created. We are not to surrender our minds and hearts to the comparison of a beginning - coming to an end like all things on this earth. God the ever-existing Father is beyond what is comparable to anything we can grasp in the flesh. We must trust in the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ to enlighten and illuminate us with the whole counsel of God’s Word so we may fully enjoy Him as our heavenly Father.

We must remember the Bible was not written by human enlightenment like a well written book. Rather be illuminated with the fact, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Therefore, enlightenment of the everlasting God comes not from eloquent speakers, not from any kind of human understanding, but from the Word of God, the Bible. God is speaking to Isaiah which informs us, “…Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” (Isaiah 43:10b)

One of the Names of God (El Olam) means Ever-lasting God, whom is over all history, He is self-existent, He has ever-lasting energy, will live forever, knows the beginning of everything to its end, He never changes, our covenant of salvation in Christ Jesus is everlasting, He will always act in lovingkindness toward us, and is our protector. Our bodies may be destroyed however, our spirits and souls are untouched of which we will receive a resurrected body someday.

Our Heavenly Father has an eternal Son, Jesus Christ. There is Biblical truth to encourage us to grasp the importance of Jesus being the eternal Son of God. The Bible teaches of the Supremacy of Jesus Christ. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross”. – (Colossians 1:13-16) Hebrews 1:2-3 says, “but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.”
