Genesis 5:21 - 24 ENOCH:

Heb 11: 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

1. A Man Familiar with God!

Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

A. The Direction of His Walk with God! G. Campbell Morgan gave the greatest definition when he said, “Walking with God means that we are going in the same direction as God.”

B. The Distinction of His Walk with God! Enoch was not:-

Conformed to the World, Controlled by the World, Condemned with the World

C. The Duration of His Walk with God! 22. “And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.”

‘Methusaleh,’ which means, “when he shall die it shall be sent, or it shall come.”

His name was in reference to the flood.

When we walk with the Lord, In the light of His Word,

What a glory He sheds on our way; While we do His good will,

He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey.

2. A Man Favoured by God!

Hebrews 11: 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

A. How He Lived in This World!

5 “for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”

Enoch had an Unusual testimony. He pleased God.

Enoch had a Unique testimony. - he had “THIS testimony, that he pleased God.”

“Nothing between my soul and the Saviour, Naught of this world’s elusive dreams.

I have renounced all sinful pleasure, Jesus is mine, there is nothing between!”

Enoch had an Unwavering testimony

B. How He Loved in This World! - he pleased God

The Bible tells us Enoch began walking with the Lord after he begot his son, Methuselah. Enoch was 65 at the time. And for 300 years he fellowshipped with God intimately.

According to Hebrews 11:5, it was Enoch’s intimacy that pleased God.

To our knowledge, this man never performed a miracle, never developed a profound theology, never did any great works worthy of mention in Scripture.

Instead we read this simple description of this faithful man’s life: “Enoch walked with God.”

C. How He Left This World!

5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him.”

Enoch’s transformation. We are told that he was “translated that he should not see death.” The word ‘translated’ is a music term. “to transpose from a lower key to a higher key.”

In one day, God transformed, translated and transposed Enoch from the low key of this world to the high key of another world.

Enoch’s location. he “was not.”

In the 1960-70’s we learned of ‘astronauts.’ In the 1980-90’s of ‘cosmonauts.’

However, Enoch was neither an astronaut, nor a cosmonaut. He was a “was not.”

3. A Man Faithful to God!

Jude. 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

A. His Faithfulness Revealed!

(a) In his Birth. 14 that Enoch was the “seventh from Adam.”

That is significant because it reminds us that the godly line was restored through Enoch.

The name Seth means, “he is appointed.”

Enoch was the great, great, great, great, great-grandson of Seth.

Thus, God appointed Seth to restore the godly line, and to bring Enoch through that line. God had a will, a way, and a work specifically for Enoch.

(b) By his Behaviour.

The word “ungodly” is used 4 times to speak of the day in which Enoch lived.

In fact, Enoch lived in the days preceding the flood, which were days filled with wickedness, corruption and ungodliness.

B. His Faithfulness Rewarded!

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
