ENOCH: FAITH TO WALK WITH GOD

Hebrews 11:5-6; Genesis 5:19-24

Parable of Couple Touring the City without a Guide

The elderly and recently widowed man sat weeping as he told his story to the police officer at the precient. I lost everything, everything he repeated continually. He explained how he and his wife had worked all their lives scratching out a living on a little farm For years they had dreamed about traveling to the big city and to visit the museums and historical landmarks they had read about throughout their lives. They had been saving every penney for years to finally have enough for their dream vacation. Everyone had told them it would be best to hire a tour guide, but desiring to stretch their money they decided against hiring a tour guide to show them the city. They decided they could find their way around just fine. As they drove into town their mouths dropped by awe of the bigness of the city. The lights, the buildings, the billboards were more than they ever imagined. They only had a few days, but they were wanting to make the best of every minute. Turn here, and turn here his wife would reply. Not knowing the city soon they were lost and the more they drove the more lost they became until soon they found themselves far away from the museums and the landmarks they had come to see. Instead, they found themselves in the darkest part of the city and there they were robbed and his wife murdered by heartless thugs. The heart broken man continued to weep and the officer heard him say, “If only we had listened and had someone to show us the city this would have never had happened.”

Dear friends, even since the time of Enoch this world has been a tough place to live. Yes, there is much joy to discover as we walk through life but there is also much heart lurking behind every corner.

I. TO WALK WITH GOD IS A CHOICE

Enoch chose to walk with God because he....

A. Believed in God’s Existence

(Heb. 11:6b) ...for he that cometh to God must

believe that he is,...

Believed that God was Everything He Said He Was

- Creator (Heb 11:3)

B. Trusted in God’s Promises

(Heb. 11:6c) ..and that he is a rewarder of

them that diligently seek him.

Believed that God would do Everything that

He Said He would do

II. TO WALK WITH GOD IS FELLOWSHIP

Enoch enjoyed fellowship with God because he...

A. Had Personal Relationship with God

Loneliness is like a piano without keys,

Like a violin without strings.

Like a sanctuary without a congregation

Or a choir where no one sings.

Loneliness is like a blade of grass

Growing through a crack of cement.

Loneliness is like a camp ground

Without a single tent.

Loneliness is like a mocking bird

That cannot sing a song.

Loneliness is a feeling

That one does not belong.

Like a pansy in a corn field

Hidden where no one can see.

I know all there is to know about loneliness

Because it lives inside of me. (Copied)

B. Had Total Agreement with God

(Amos 3:3) Can two walk together, except they

be agreed?

C. Had Much in Common with God

III. TO WALK WITH GOD IS VICTORY

Enoch experienced victory in his life over...

A. Doubt

B. Fear

C. Temptation

D. Death (Heb. 11:5)

IV. TO WALK WITH GOD IS PLEASING

A. Pleasing to God (Heb. 11:6)

God enjoys our relationship

God enjoys our prosperity

B. Pleasing to You

It brings great peace - (Isa 26:3) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

It gives great strength (Isa. 26:4) Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.

It brings great joy - (Ps 16:11) Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

It brings great understanding/wisdom (Luke 24:27)

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

It brings great fulfillment (2 Tim 4:6-8)

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

It brings great fire for God - (Luke 24:32) And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
