VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. CHRIST is the end of the law

"CHRIST is the end of the law"

1. CHRIST came from the Greek word: "Christos" meaning Anointed, Messiah, CHRIST.

Romans 8:3-4 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.

Matthew 5:17-18 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.

Galatians 3:24 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith.

2. The word "end" came from the Greek word: "telos" meaning "properly the point aimed at as a limit", "the conclusion of an act or state", "result" , "immediate, ultimate, or prophetic purpose"

Psalms 40:6-7 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand— you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.

Then I said, “Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures:

Hebrews 10:4-10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings. But you have given me a body to offer.

You were not pleased with burnt offerings or other offerings for sin.

Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God— as is written about me in the Scriptures.’”

First, Christ said, “You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings or burnt offerings or other offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them” (though they are required by the law of Moses).

Then he said, “Look, I have come to do your will.” He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect.

For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.

B. There may be righteousness for everyone who believes

"there may be righteousness for everyone who believes"

1. The word "righteousness" came from the Greek word: "dikaiosune" meaning "justification, righteousness"

John 16:10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST needs to enter the real Holy of Holies which is Heaven itself.

Hebrews 4:14 (New International Version)

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

Hebrews 5:7-9 (New International Version)

During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered

and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him

2. The word "believes" came from the Greek word: "pisteuo" meaning "to have faith", "to credit", "to entrust [one's spiritual well being to CHRIST]", "believe" , "trust"

Romans 10:9-10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
