Matthew 1:18 - 25 EMMANUEL

I. THE MIRACLE OF THE NAME: 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son

A. The Prophecy Of His Birth: Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

B. The Purity Of His Birth: Behold, a virgin shall be with child C. The Priority Of His Birth: EMMANUEL - God with us

II. THE MAJESTY OF THE NAME: Emmanuel, God with us. I. WITH US IN PERSON - John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

II. IN POWER - (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) III. IN PRACTICE - full of grace and truth. (1) He did the will of the Father. He said, "I do always those things that please Him." & "My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me." (2) He spoke the words of the Father. He said

"I have given unto them the words that Thou gavest Me." (3) He wrought the works of the Father.

"My Father worketh hitherto, and I work."

"The Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works."

IV. IN PRESENCE - Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us

Mining Camp - A Child is Born III. THE MYSTERY OF THE NAME: Emmanuel, God with us. I Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

His Coming - God was manifest in the flesh,

His Calling - justified in the Spirit, His Comforting - seen of angels,

His Confessing - preached unto the Gentiles,

His Convicting - believed on in the world

His Confirming - received up into glory.

IV. THE MEANING OF THE NAME : being interpreted is, God with us.

I. In Christ—God Is with Us II. In Conversion—God Is in Us 2 Cors 6:16 ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

III. In Circumstances—God Is Around Us

Psalm 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

IV. In Church—God Is Among Us

Matt 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

V. In Conflict—God Is for Us Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

VI. In Crisis—God Is Beneath Us Deut 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms:

"She is sinking Fast" "how can you sink when your on solid Rock".

VII. In Care—God Is Above Us Deut 33:12

And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

V. THE MERCY OF THE NAME: God with us.

(a) God has been with us (In the past)

(b) God is with us (In the present)

(c) God will be with us (In the perplexities)
