In Philippians 3:12-16, Paul provides three key principles to guide us as we step into the new year: Letting go of our past, setting our priorities straight, and living fully in the present.

Introduction

Today marks the beginning of a new year, a time when many of us reflect on the past and look forward to the future. As we enter this new season, it is important to approach it with the right attitude and mindset. In Philippians 3:12-16, the Apostle Paul provides us with three principles to guide us in starting the new year: Letting go of the past, focusing on our priorities, and living in the present.

Forgetting Your Past

In verse 13, Paul encourages us to forget what lies behind and press forward. We all have made mistakes and experienced failures in the past, but dwelling on them will only hold us back. Just as God forgives our sins and remembers them no more, we should also let go of our past and move forward with confidence.

Focusing Your Priorities

Paul emphasizes in verse 14 that his top priority was to pursue the goal of God's calling. Similarly, we should make seeking God's kingdom our primary focus. This involves spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, and actively participating in church activities. By making God and His kingdom our priority, we can experience a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

Functioning in the Present

Paul's words in verse 13 remind us to live in the present moment. Often, we get caught up in planning for the future or regretting the past, neglecting the opportunities that are right in front of us. Instead, we should seize each day and make the most of it. Let us not procrastinate or delay in doing what is right and necessary.

Conclusion

As we embark on this new year, let us adopt Paul's principles for a fresh start. Leave behind the mistakes and failures of the past, focusing instead on seeking God's kingdom and living each day to its fullest. Remember that today is the day of salvation and the acceptable time to make positive changes in our lives.

Invitation

Allow His cleansing power to wash away your sins and start living for Christ every day. The invitation is open to all, whether you are ready to be baptized or simply need a fresh start in your faith journey. Please come forward and take this opportunity to start the new year with a renewed perspective and commitment to God.
