Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon emphasizes our identity as God's deliberate, purposeful creation, encouraging us to live in alignment with His divine design and purpose.
Welcome, dear friends, to this sacred gathering. It's a beautiful day, isn't it? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and we are here, together, ready to bask in the warmth of God's Word. Isn't it amazing how God's creation reflects His glory and reminds us of His love for us? We are His creation too, my friends. And not just any creation, but the masterpiece of His handiwork.
The great Charles Spurgeon once said, "We are not accidents of fate; we are the products of divine will." We are not just random beings floating through life. We are the deliberate design of an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God.
In the book of Romans, we read, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2). In Psalm 139, David marvels at God's intimate knowledge and involvement in his life, saying, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." (Psalm 139:13-16). The prophet Jeremiah assures us of God's plans for us, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11). And Paul writes to the Ephesians, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10).
Each of these passages underscores the same truth: we are the masterpiece of God's creation, fashioned by His deliberate design, and called to march boldly in His purpose.
Let's begin with a prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for bringing us together today. We thank You for Your Word, which guides us and gives us hope. We thank You for creating us in Your image, for designing us with purpose, and for calling us to live according to Your will. As we reflect on Your Word today, open our hearts and minds to understand the depth of Your love for us and the magnitude of Your plans for us. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
Transition. So, dear friends, let us turn our hearts and minds to the truth of our identity in Christ, to the beauty of God's deliberate design, and to the power of living in His purpose. We are not mere creations, but the masterpiece of the Creator. We are not accidents, but the result of divine intention. We are not aimless, but appointed for a purpose. And that, my friends, is a truth worth celebrating.
We find ourselves, dear friends, in the heart of a grand design. A design that is not random, not haphazard, but intentional, purposeful, and filled with love. This design is none other than the handiwork of our Creator, God Himself. We are not merely creations, but the crowning glory of His creation. This is a truth that is both humbling and empowering. It reminds us of our worth in God's eyes and our place in His grand plan.
Consider, if you will, the complexity of our bodies. The intricacy of our DNA, the precision of our organs, the beauty of our senses. All these are not accidents, but the result of divine craftsmanship. Our bodies are not just functional, they are works of art, each one unique, each one a testament to God's creativity and attention to detail. This is a testament to our status as God's masterpiece.
Also, our minds, our emotions, our personalities, our talents, all these are part of God's design. They are tools given to us by our Creator, tools that we are called to use for His glory. We are not just physical beings, but spiritual beings, created in the image of God. This is a testament to our status as God's masterpiece.
And let's not forget our place in God's grand narrative. Each of us has a role to play, a purpose to fulfill. We are not just spectators, but participants in God's story. Our lives are not just our own, but part of a larger tapestry, woven together by God's hand. This is a testament to our status as God's masterpiece.
Finally, consider the love with which God created us. He did not create us out of necessity, or out of boredom, but out of love. He created us to be in relationship with Him, to experience His love, to reflect His love to others. This is not a love that is fleeting or conditional, but a love that is eternal, unchanging, and unconditional. This is a testament to our status as God's masterpiece.
Transition. So, dear friends, let us not forget who we are and whose we are. We are the masterpiece of God's creation, fashioned by His hand, loved by His heart, and called to His purpose. This is a truth that should not only inform our identity, but also guide our actions. For if we truly believe that we are God's masterpiece, then we should strive to live in a way that reflects His craftsmanship, His love, and His purpose.
