El Shaddai

The God who is more then enough

I want to encourage you tonight in the God who is more than enough and the God of the impossible. Our God is able and our God is willing to do what he says he can do.

Genesis 17:1 (KJV) 1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

The name Almighty God here is the covenant name El Shaddai. This is one of the seven covenant name that God gave Israel and means

“The God who is more than enough or the all sufficient one”

Throughout the Old Testament God revealed Himself as El Shaddai, the God who is more than enough.

The promise inherent in the name Shadday is that the Almighty can do everything He has promised. No man or other power can thwart His ways. He is an awesome God.

Let’s look at some examples of our covenant keeping God.

When the Children of Israel were crossing the red sea El Shaddai was on the scene.

Exodus 15:1-12 (NKJV) 1 Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: "I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! 2 The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father's God, and I will exalt Him. 3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name. 4 Pharaoh's chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 The depths have covered them; They sank to the bottom like a stone. 6 "Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces. 7 And in the greatness of Your excellence You have overthrown those who rose against You; You sent forth Your wrath; It consumed them like stubble. 8 And with the blast of Your nostrils The waters were gathered together; The floods stood upright like a heap; The depths congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.' 10 You blew with Your wind, The sea covered them; They sank like lead in the mighty waters. 11 "Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12 You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them.

Look at Verse 8 And with the blast of Your nostrils The waters were gathered together; The floods stood upright like a heap; The depths congealed in the heart of the sea.

Congealed> This word means to Thicken, or freeze. God blew on the huge Red Sea and it thicken and froze and stood straight up so the Children of Israel could pass. WOW! When there enemies came against them, the water fell on them.

Our God has and will protect us from our enemies.

Joshua 10:12-15 (NKJV) 12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: "Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon." 13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel. 15 Then Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp at Gilgal.

If He did this kind of stuff in the O.T. How much more today is Jesus our covenant God able to deliver us from all oppression \that would come against us. He is More Then Enough.

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) 6 "For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

He is the same God in the O.T. and the N.T. He is ever Faithful

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV) 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Our Jesus is El Shaddai, He does not change like the weather is ever faithful.

Acts 10:38 (NKJV) 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
