Signs and Wonders – 3 Eagerly Desire

Signs and Wonders are Demonstrations of the spirit that can’t be explained designed to bring Glory honor to God.

1 Corinthians 12:1-3 (New King James Version)

1Now concerning[a] spiritual gifts,[b] brothers,[c] I do not want you to be uninformed. 2You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus is accursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except in the Holy Spirit.

Uninformed – ignore, or not understand them.

False teachers were preying on their ignorance

But yet they were puffed up with their own wisdom and Paul reminded them of their ignorance when they were pagans following false Gods.

Our God isn’t false – He’s not a mute, he speaks to us….

If your a Hindu – if you follow Allah – Buddah – Mother Mary St. Peter or any other false God – he’s mute and he won’t answer you! You pray to him for your healing, and when you get tired of waiting you come here and I will show you that Jesus Christ is the answer. He is the healer.

4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5And there are differences of administrations (ministers), but the same Lord.

6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

There are 3 categories of the Gifts

1. The gifts of Utterance: Prophecy, Tongues, Interpretation

Three of them say something.

2. The Gifts of Power: Gift of faith, Working of Miracles, Gifts of healings.

Three of them do something.

3. The Gifts of Revelation: Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, discerning of spirits

Three of them reveal something.

1. The gifts of Utterance: Prophecy, Tongues, Interpretation

Three of them say something.

a. Prophecy:

1 Cor 14:3 describes prophecy:

“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. So the simple gift of prophecy there is not revelation of future events.

Prophecy is to edify or build up and encourage the body of Christ.

Prophecy is used as the vehicle to convey a word of knowledge or and or a word of wisdom.

b. Tongues – is a sign to the unbeliever

c. Interpretation of Tongues

2. The Gifts of Power: Gift of faith, Working of Miracles, Gifts of healings.

Three of them do something.

3. The Gifts of Revelation: Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, discerning of spirits

Three of them reveal something.

a. The Gift of a Word of Knowledge:

It is a fragment or a small portion of God’s knowledge dealing with the past and present.

Central Truth of the Word of Knowledge:

Through the word of knowledge, the discouraged can be comforted, the saints can be given hope, the enemy defeated, and the Lord Jesus Christ glorified.

God is all knowledge, but He only reveals a word or a fragment of

The word of knowledge can be given through visions, prophecy and inward revelation.

b. The Gift of the Word of Wisdom

Now the gift of the Word of Wisdom is not the gift of wisdom.

This is the Word of Wisdom, which is a fragment or a small portion of Wisdom that God is revealing through the Holy Spirit to someone.

Central Truth:

The word of wisdom is a supernatural revelation by the Spirit of God concerning the divine purpose in the mind will of God. That which is to come.

He only reveals a small portion of what He wants to reveal, that which He wants him to know at a given time.

Discerning of spirits – ability to see into the spirit realm
