Explores our purpose to know God, the power of prophecy, and God's ability to bring life from desolation.
Ladies and Gentlemen, brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet you warmly in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we gather in this sacred space, we are reminded that we are not just mere spectators, but active participants in the grand narrative of God's love and redemption. We are not bystanders, but key players in the divine plan.
There's a quote by J.I. Packer that I hold dear and I believe it fits perfectly into what we're about to discuss today. Packer once said, "Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord." In our lives, we are faced with numerous challenges, but the moment we realize that our primary purpose is to know God, we begin to see these challenges from a different perspective.
In the passage we read, we see the prophet Ezekiel being commanded by God to prophesy to a valley of dry bones. This is not a normal situation. It's not a typical day in the life of a prophet. Yet, Ezekiel doesn't question God's command. He doesn't hesitate or doubt. He simply obeys. This is the first thing we need to understand about our heavenly authority. It's not about us. It's not about our power or our abilities. It's about God's power working through us.
God is the one who gives the command: He is the one who provides the power. Our role is to listen, to obey, and to trust. This is not always easy. It requires faith. It requires humility. It requires a willingness to let go of our own understanding and to trust in God's wisdom and power.
The command: God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones. This is a strange command. Bones can't hear. They can't respond. They can't do anything. Yet, Ezekiel obeys. He speaks to the bones as if they can hear him. He speaks to them as if they can respond. He speaks to them as if they can come to life. And they do.
It's not limited by our human understanding: It's not confined by our human abilities. It's not restricted by our human limitations. God's power is beyond our comprehension. It's beyond our abilities. It's beyond our limitations.
The dry bones come to life: They become a vast army. This is a miraculous transformation. It's a powerful demonstration of God's power. It's a vivid illustration of what God can do through us when we listen, obey, and trust. It's not about what we can do. It's about what God can do through us. It's about His power. It's about His glory. It's about His kingdom.
