Summary: We may be highly learned, theologically equipped, smart and confident; yet, if we are not people who firmly keep up a promise, then all our accolades stand of no value

DOUBLE TONGUED PERSON

1 Samuel 24: 16 When David had finished speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" Then Saul lifted up his voice and wept.

17 He said to David, "You are more righteous than I; for you have dealt well with me, while I have dealt wickedly with you.

18 "You have declared today that you have done good to me, that the LORD delivered me into your hand and yet you did not kill me.

19 "For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away safely? May the LORD therefore reward you with good in return for what you have done to me this day.

20 "Now, behold, I know that you will surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.

21 "So now swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants after me and that you will not destroy my name from my father's household."

22 David swore to Saul. And Saul went to his home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

Look at those honey dripping, butter-smooth-tongue that speaks such kind words in the above scripture; however, that same tongue spoke evil of David after few days. Double-minded and double tongue people! David did not trust this double tongue, treacherous, deceitful, cunning man with an uncanny attitude, that’s why he went into the stronghold again when Saul went to his home. Stay tuned for a great message for the present era of people who have forgotten about speaking honest words.

1 Samuel 26: Saul AGAIN chases David to kill him. Read: 1 Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding on the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?"

2 So Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel, to search for David in the wilderness of Ziph.

BACKGROUND: By the time we reach 1 Samuel 24, David has been already anointed by prophet Samuel as king of Israel, before his entire family. So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David. (1 Samuel 16:13) But David was not going to do anything out of God’s time frame, he patiently went through the journey of pain, isolation, persecutions and trials. None can reject, ignore you on the day of God’s appointed time for your life, you would be like a city on a hill, shining bright. Are you listening?

King Saul allowed the evil spirit of envy, anger, bitterness, rebelliousness to enter him which was killing him day by day. If he had repented and transformed, his life would have been better but he was handsome but lunatic, tall but double tongued and double minded. Sad, I have to give such an introduction of a man who was anointed king by God. Like Saul, many have lost their splendor, grandeur and brilliance because of wrong choices in their life. Saul is one such person who used his tongue to manipulate, lie, swagger, threaten and also at times speak good of God, which we read in the above scripture. However, his heart did not have a change, therefore, his actions and life were contrary and finally he had a horrific death when Saul took his own sword and fell on it.(1 Samuel 31:4)

We have huge bunches of SAULs’ today, who speak one thing but do something else, are you listening? They would sing in the choir, teach in Sunday class, at the same time they would have a girl friend outside their marriage. Atrocious! I have watched people do this, glaringly, flagrantly and daringly, with no pricking of conscience whatsoever but one word of warning here, all such people have a horrible death if they fail to repent. Caveat! Alas, Saul did not fear God, never repented until the end of his life, but instead feared the Philistines and chose to fall on his sword and die. The Bible says: Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. So when the heart is wicked then the mouth also gets in line with the heart, are you listening?

• When you jump the red light in traffic, that is rebelliousness

• When you don’t wear a mask for protection, that is rebelliousness

• When you don’t wear a helmet, that is rebelliousness too

• Arguing during the choir practice is a rebellious nature
