Summary: Do not enter into relationships with idolaters. They would lead you away from God and turn you away from worshipping Him. They would cause you to be an unworthy member of the Body of Christ

May the peace of the Lord be with you.

Topic: *DONT JOIN YOURSELF TO IDOLATERS*

1 Corinthians 6:13-17 King James Version (KJV)

13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

The Bible text we are discussing today has been interpreted mostly as a text dealing with fornication, adultery, prostitution, other sexual sins and how we should not engage in such.

But today I will like to look at the scripture in a another dimension; in connection to idolatry. The Greek words "Porneia" and it's derivatives like "Porne" are all translated as fornication, adultery, harlot etc. Metaphorically they also mean idolatry or idolatress which have to do with idol worship.

The verse 17 of the scripture talks about he that is joined with Christ being one spirit. This produces the meaning that he that is joined with an idol is one spirit with the idol because these idols are backed by evil spirits.

We are therefore not to engage in idolatry. God has said that He is a jealous God and we are to worship only Him and nothing or no one else. Worshipping idols is therefore one thing that God hates.

Paul therefore admonishes us not to join our members to idolaters, that is, we should avoid joining them in the things they do because as we join them and indulge in their evil act through, marriage or other relationships, we become one with them and such companies corrupts good morals and also leads us astray from our God.

When we study the kings who ruled Israel, those who married women who came from foreign nations who were idol worshippers joined their wives in the long run to worship these idols and some even built altars for them. All these were done against the ways and Word of God.

Beloved, being part of the Body of Christ, your body is part of the members of Christ's Body. Therefore, Indulging in idolatry or joining yourself to an idolater through marriage or other relationships, is, making yourself a part of the evil that God hates and also disregarding the work of Jesus on the cross, your salvation.

Beloved we have to be careful of the people we get into relationships with, we have to be careful of the companies we join so that we don't get into relationships that will corrupt us and make us unworthy members of the Body of Christ.

*IT'S ALL ABOUT JESUS* and no one else. Jesus walked this earth knowing how to deal with people of different walks of life and didn't corrupt Himself with them or join Himself to them in any form of relationship that will lead Him into what God hates. Beloved, as we follow our Brother, Jesus, let us study Him and live as He lived to the glory of God Almighty, worshipping Him always.

Prayer: Daddy please keep me from joining myself to idolaters who will corrupt me and lead me astray into doing things that you hate. Daddy, may Precious Holy Spirit manifest through me, speak your Word to win the souls of these idolaters from the kingdom of darkness into your Kingdom of Light. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
