Don’t Leave GOD Alone

Exodus 32:1-14

Prayer:

Focus Text: Exodus 32:9-11 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: 10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. 11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

Purpose: I want to provide an exegetical overview of the text (Exodus 32:1-14) to strengthen their knowledge of GOD’s people and the sins they commit; and prove the prayers of the righteous availeth much. Today I want to offer deliverance to all those who are capture and feels trap in sin, and remind the saints of GOD to keep praying for and trusting in GOD’s deliverance.

Introduction: The text begins with the LORD speaking to Moses, after observing and taking notice of the facts that after all he has done for the children of Israel they were willing to insult him and defy him by giving credit to an idol for delivering them out of Egypt. They have become discourage because of the length of time their leader Moses have been gone. This action enrage GOD to the point that he decided to eradicate them and forfeit the promise he made to Abraham, Isaac, Israel; and he would start over from scratch with Moses. During the mist of his fury he immediately disown His children, and instructed Moses to tell the people He has disowned them and prepare to face His wrath. As Christians, we have salvation by the Blood of JESUS, but do not forget sin separates our relationship with GOD:

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We have to keep in mind; sin makes GOD extremely mad because, although it made come natural to us, as a child of this is disobedience to GOD’s word. Continuing in sin gets GOD as we would say, “Fed up with us”, then his wrath. The great theologian and author Jonathan Edwards wrote a sermon entitled, Standing in the Hands of a Angry GOD, and in this sermon Edwards tells us that all of us are standing in the hand of GOD. The hand that we are standing on is the only thing between hell and us; and if we continue to sin he will remove his hand:

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Now, Moses is interceding for GOD’s people to calm the wrath of GOD. What Moses is doing for the children of Israel (GOD’s people) is like how our Grandparents would come between, and begged our parents not to whoop us, although they were in full knowledge of our wrongdoings, Keep in mind if did not plea with mama and daddy, then mama and daddy would have beat us halfway to death. They said a prayer like JESUS did on the cross, “LORD forgive them for they know not what they do”. By them praying on your behave, it invoke GOD’s mercy and loving-kindness, in turn, gave you a chance to come into promise of His Glory and a chance to repent of your sins:

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

We need to take time out to thank GOD and the ones that have been praying to GOD for our sins.

Now, you would ask, “Moses, why you not leave GOD alone after he told you leave him alone”, and Moses would reply:

1. He remembers they are GOD’s people (v 11)

Exodus 32:11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

A. They are not his people, but children of GOD

B. They were deliver by GOD, not him

2. He remembers GOD’s enemies (v 12)

Exodus 32:12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.
