Don't Kill The Mockingbird

“To Kill a Mockingbird” was a novel published in 1960 by a lady named Harper Lee. It was a book dealing with racial inequality. Based on a story of a white attorney representing a black man who was accused of raping a white woman. The book was made into a movie in 1962 and won a Oscar medal. The book was said by British librarians in 2006 to be one that every adult should read before death. In 2007 President Bush awarded Harper Lee the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her book.

Mockingbird= mimus polyglottos meaning simply to mimic many tongues.

A mockingbird is a must in every bird lovers birdhouse.

An adult mockingbird may have up to 200 songs in its personal repertoire. The mating call however is singular only to the mockingbird themselves.

If a mockingbird loses its personal song it will fail to reproduce. The increase of mechanical sounds (i.e. cell phones) are disorienting and confusing the mockingbirds in many largely populated cities. California, New York, Philadelphia and other large U.S. Cities have reported hundreds of accounts of mockingbirds mimicking the sounds of cell phones. (California man who heard a mockingbird imitating a cell phone on vibrate).

The psalmist speaks here of a song that he refers to as “the Lords song” It seems to be a song that belongs exclusively to the Lord. A people held captive in a strange land are called upon to sing their song, the song of Zion.

There are some sounds that are singular only to the true church of the living God.

There are many sounds in our world today. The bible speaks of a time when many sounds would be heard in the land. Some of them were refereed to as uncertain sounds. Many are very unpleasant sounds. The sounds of abused children, aborted babies, mis-used women, broken homes now seem to permeate our world. These sounds are confusing and disorienting to the church. The alarming fact is that the more Christians who become disoriented by the sounds and lose their own song; the greater our chances are of becoming extinct.

The sound that belongs to the church cannot be imitated. The church will fail to reproduce and bring forth children if we lose the song that is the Lords song. The sounds of worship, dancing, singing, speaking with tongues, declaring the Holiness of God, and the need for a sanctified life are exclusively owned by the true church. As Christians it is of utmost importance that we do not allow the strange sounds of the world to smother our song.

The song that awaken Jerusalem at the third hour of the day is the sound that shook hell to its very roots. Let our cry be Don't kill the Mockingbird!!! Let the church live and let her song be song from every housetop, street corner, cathedral, and country hamlet of our land. Jesus Saves!! Jesus Saves!!
