DON'T QUIT- I DEPEND ON

2 Corinthians 3:4-6

Introduction:

Fill in the blanks (but don’t answer Jesus or God). If you don’t have anybody to write in the blank, then leave it empty.

* When I’m broke and don’t have the money to pay all of my bills I turn to ___________________ for help.

* When others began to criticize and gossip about me, I talk to ______________________ for encouragement.

* When I’m needing counsel and direction for my life I know ___________________________ will be there.

* When I’m sick and can’t take care of myself, I know that _______________________ will take care of me.

* In the last hours of my life, I would like to know that _________________________ will be there with me.

I must tell you that I didn’t enjoy thinking about these questions. I thank God for my family, my friends, and my Church family; but there has been times that I still felt alone. Think about this- What if I told you that you have to remove the name that appears the most on your list? Then what would you do?

I went through all of this to make a point: There are going to be times that you don’t have anybody to help you and you will either have to rely on God or yourself. Because God is the only One that we can always depend upon, it makes sense to depend on Him for all things. I’m sure that many of you are thinking, “If you would have allowed us to put God in the blank we would have”; and I hope that’s true; but for most of us, that is what we would write down, but isn’t what would really happen.

This morning I want you to see what the evidence of depending upon God looks like; and then encourage you to strive for this.

2 Corinthians 3:4-6

A God dependent person has…

1. Confidence.

I think there is an attitude amongst Christians that we need to be quiet about our beliefs. We don’t want to upset anyone or make them think that we are these fanatics; so we don’t tell them who our God is and what He does. When you do things God’s way, you should be confident and not ashamed. Just this week, we have had a victory in our Country- Roe vs. Wade was overturned. Unfortunately, there are many Christians who will keep quiet or even disagree with the protection of the unborn.

Do you have confidence that God will take care of your finances? Do you believe God will protect you from those who slander you? Do you believe God will direct you and show you what to do? Do you believe God will be with you during your illnesses? Do you believe God will be with you even in your last moments of life? If you can say yes to all of these questions; then why worry?

Matthew 6:25-34

A God dependent person has…

2. Sufficiency.

We must realize that on our own we are never able; but with God, we have all we need. God is more than enough. When we are following God, we are satisfied. Through Jesus, we have all we need. Through Christ, you can do things that you never imagined. You have the ability to do anything that God calls you to do as long as it’s through Him.

A God dependent person has…

3. Power.

Children of God, you have the Holy Spirit within you. Is there anything that God can’t do? Is there anything that God can’t handle? Of course not- That means that you have the power of God within you and nothing is impossible with God.

Conclusion:

Stop being weak- Stop telling God what He can and can’t do in your life- Stop moping and worrying about everything. Go into the rest of your life knowing that when God is in control, you win.
