Doing God’s Will

Acts 1: 4-26 Monte T. Brown

First Baptist Riverton

Introduction

Adhere to God’s Precepts

We need to listen to God.

So many times we run ahead and miss out on the blessings that God has for us.

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. Acts 1:4-5

Our ability to understand God through our fleshly body is crippled by our sinful nature.

We must rely on the power that God has given us.

The help that comes from the baptism of the Holy Spirit that which happens through conversion.

A transformation takes place the Holy Spirit comes into our lives.

You can’t be partially saved, all of the Holy Spirit comes into our lives at once.

It is up to us to decide weather or not we will allow the Holy Spirit to control all of our lives or not.

[5] For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when one yields their whole life over to the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit gives us clear precepts of God’s desires.

Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. [91] Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. Psalm 119:90-101

[92] If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. [93] I will never forget your precepts (instructions), for by them you have preserved my life.

[94] Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts (instructions). [95] The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. [96] To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless.

Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. [98] Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.

[99] I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

[100] I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. (instructions). [101] I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.

Maybe the reason that so many Christians struggle is that they have not yielded their lives over to the Holy Spirit.

They are trying to operate in the flesh and not in the spirit.

They are trying to operate outside of God’s precepts.

Pray for God’s Help

They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Acts 1:14

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, Colossians 1:3

Our prayer life becomes powerful when we have yielded our life over to the Holy Spirit.

Escort to God’s Word

Escort to God’s Word and the power of God will surround you.

Be in one accord.

Let the Holy Spirit draw you into the fellowship of God.

In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)

[16] and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus—

[17] he was one of our number and shared in this ministry."

[18] (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out.

[19] Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

[20] "For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms, " ’May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it, ’and, " ’May another take his place of leadership.’

[21] Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, [22] beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection." Acts 1:15-22

Grant God to Guide You

Sometimes we can be heavenly minded but earthly blinded.

We need to seek God and wait upon him.

As Christian we sometimes get the cart before the horse.

Push the elevator button and not get on.
