Does This Describe Me (Hix)

Summary: Why is Paul telling us all this? Because of two reasons: 1-Don’t be like these people! 2-Don’t be surprised there are people like this in church!!
2 Timothy 3:4-Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; (KJV)
4-traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, (NKJV)
4-They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. (NLT)
4-They will betray their friends, they will be hot headed, puffed up with pride, and prefer good times, to worshipping God, (The Living Bible)
Traitors-Somebody who is disloyal or unfaithful
Judas-Hearing Jesus preach, hearing Jesus pray, seeing Jesus perform miracles, it seems like it had absolutely no influence on him.
But don’t get me wrong Judas was moved not by malice, but by self-interest!!!
He sold out Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, there are a lot of people who have turn their back on Jesus, or have betrayed Jesus for a lot less!!!
Some people had sold Jesus out for a business…A business, or a job comes before Christ!
Some people had sold Jesus out for family…Family has become more important than Jesus!
Some people had sold Jesus out for a pleasure…The leisure is more important than serving Jesus!
He sealed his betray with a kiss, of affection!!
Many do the same thing, they act one in church, and another way in public!!!
Headstrong-willful and stubborn-Self-willed and determined not to follow orders or advice
After a baby is born and reaches a certain age, we begin to see how self-willed, that they are.
They begin to crawl, and to get into things!
And pretty soon they tear things up, break things, climb onto things!
We want them to be independent of course, and learn to do things for themselves, but we have to be careful, and also teach them how to ask and accept help, because if not they will become headstrong, willful, stubborn, which can and does lead into problems later in life!
There has to be a balance of being stubborn, but not being set in your ways!!
If your stubborn and you can’t be reasoned with, or willful, that it’s your way or the highway, you find in life, that many people will choose the highway, over your way, and you’ll find yourself alone!!
Haughty-Behaving in a superior, condescending, or arrogant way!
Don’t you just hate (Dislike) people who think they are better than you?
They always are the people, who constantly reminding you, they have a better education than you, make more money than you do, drive better car than you, live in better house than you!!
And I’m sorry to say, but you’ll find people in church like that!!
They can quote more scripture, than you, they read the bible more than you, they can pronounce those names in the bible better than you, they give more than you!
That’s good they can do all those things, the bad part is they make sure you feel inferior!!
They look down their pious noses at you
Why is Paul telling us all this? Because of two reasons:
1-Don’t be like these people!
2-Don’t be surprised there are people like this in church!!
Lovers Of Pleasure Rather Than Lovers Of God-When people put the desires over the desires of God, then something is wrong!!
There is nothing wrong with pleasure, there is a wide world that God has provided, to bring pleasure to people.
The way something taste, the way something smells, the way something feels, the way something sounds!!
But everything has it’s season and has it’s time and place!!
And the question, you need to ask yourself is this….Am I seeking my own pleasure, before I’m seeking God?
Paul refers to four loves
1-Lovers of themselves
2-Lovers of money
3-Lovers of pleasure
4-Lovers of God
Which one describes you?
