In the book of James we find three things that are all part of attaining patience in our lives.
First to have patience in our lives we must....
1. Go Through Affliction (v.7-11)
A.(v.10) We can rejoice in our afflictions
Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
B. (v.11) Persecution for the Lord is rewarded
Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The next thing we must do to attain patience in our lives is to .....
2. Abide In Prayer (v.12-16)
A. (v.13) Prayer leads to deliverence from temptation
Psa 50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
Psa 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
B. (v.16) We mus earnestly pray for each other
Num 11:2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
The third thing that james talks about doing to attain patience is being....
3. Accountable (v.9,12,16)
A. (v.16) We must be accountable to others of like faith
Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
B. (v.9) We must be accountable to one another without resentment
1Pe 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
1Pe 4:9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
