Do You Know Him? Do You Know Him Personally?

The book of Matthew recounts a simple exchange in chapter 16 verses 15 through 18 with profound implications. “He (Jesus) saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” No matter our individual situations or what others may say, there is only one point of importance. In the grand scheme of things, regardless of our ideologies or our doctrines, there is one universal truth; you must know why you worship the living God. So here are the poignant questions: "Who do YOU say that He is? Do you have a PERSONAL relationship with Him?"

All that we have learned, all that we have heard, becomes irrelevant if we do not intimately know Jesus. Christianity is a personal walk - it is for this reason that we have the opportunity to approach the throne of grace for ourselves. It is Jesus who is our High Priest, and to Him we go with our supplications, praise and sacrifice.

Peter answers the question perfectly, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." The Christ, the Messiah, the Savior.... This is who Jesus should be to us all. It is upon these truths that the Church is built, [verse 18: "...upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."] "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Without this reality being present in our individual lives, then we are simply wasting our time. However, many people struggle with really KNOWING God. If we will simply seek Him, He will be there: [Deuteronomy 4 vs 29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. || Jeremiah 29 vs 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.]

How then can Jesus be sought, and found? The Bible tells us in the book of John, Chapter 1 verse 1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Verse 14 goes on to say, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” If then we will continue to study the living Word of God, we will be studying the living God. This is the formula for truly knowing Jesus Christ – study His word; speak to Him as He is, like a friend, speak to Him like a brother.
